Socialism cannot work because the cost of services must be collected in the form of taxes, and this is not a sustainable possibility. The reason is that since government pays for all services, neither the producer nor the consumer cares about the cost, and hence there is an uncontrolled spiral of inflation (today's medical costs are a case in point and healthcare is not yet totally socialized). Furthermore, the government has no funds or assets. It only has the funds it confiscated from its citizens. The total inefficiency of a centralized bureaucracy does not help either. Once citizens are weaned on this cradle-to-grave concept and are no longer self-reliant, they become wards of the state and will not accept any reduction of services. The government subsequently has no option but to reduce services, and as popular resistance develops State repression begins. This is the socialist cycle. It has been found to occur in every socialist state in existence to date.

Obama is a dictator.
Thanks.

.......and the majority of the populations are always poor.
We have already been conditioned by endless talk of "social justice" and "equality" to accept things that should never even have been considered by rational man. For an antidote, read the Constitution & Declaration of Independence to see how the Founders viewed Government, and let a little sunshine reveal the absurdity of the Left's premises.
Because it devalues the individual and will always be rejected at some point unless force is used to sustain it.
Wonderfully stated! I agree.
Great explanation of this concept in Hayek’s classic “The Road to Serfdom.” Socialism always leads to dictatorship because the socialist finds he can’t accomplish his goals without absolute power. The dictators always become tyrants because they must wipe out the opposition and naysayers who speak out against their rule - those sent to the reeducation camps become the excuse for the failure of the tyrant to deliver on his promises.
There are 3 and only 3 ways for anyone in life to have/obtain value (monetary or economic) or acquire any assets to be able to live or sustain oneself or ones family:
(1) You ethically earn it (by working and providing value to your employer, risking it in a venture to provide new value to others via a service or product, inventing something new and original that is useful to others) = Ethical Capitalism
(2) You steal it from others or someone else (individual, institution, or government) steals it on your behalf = Criminals, Communism, Socialism, Fascism, American government (federal, state and local), Robin Hood, the Sopranos, the Mafia, etc..
(3) Someone voluntarily gives it to you = Charity (religious or otherwise) NOTE however, that in order for someone (individual, government, church, institution, etc..) to have the money/asset to give it to you they also must attain it via #1 or #2
Notice that the only fair, ethical, and voluntary model that is based fully on freedom and the greatest respect for the individual is #1. (NOTE: I did not include unethical, lying, criminal, or abusive individuals, executives, and companies that do not practice ethical capitalism and earn millions and wind up destroying their companies and the long-term value of shareholders.)
Left’s Premise seemsto be: Government is so good it can replace God! Nit only that, let’s select Senator Government to be our candidate.
[/sarcasm]
As the government grows, our freedoms shrink.
Give me liberty, or give me death!
I will decide how much of my life belongs to the government. The Constitution and Bill of Rights protect me from the government!
On Nov 5, if 0bama wins, God forbid, the resistance begins!
There will be no new ‘Constitution Convention’ no new ‘Bill of Rights’ nor a New New Deal! This is for the future of individual liberty and economic freedom.
God Bless the United States of America! Long may Freedom reign!
Good article, thanks. Another example besides health care now would be higher ed—and indeed education in general. With government so heavily subsidizing costs, neither the producers nor the consumers care much about the costs themselves.
Let’s take Robin Hood back. I think he is one of us because, as I understand the story, the people were taxed into poverty and Robin was getting their own money BACK to them.
Leftys always like to think of themselves as the heroic Mr. Hood, but they are not. They are the sheriff and we are Robin. (But everybody wants to be Batman I guess).
I will add Dum Spiro Spero (While I Breathe, I Hope) AND Animis Opibusque Parati (Prepared in Mind and Resources) to what you have posted.
Well, what can I saw, that seems to be what the people want. I just wonder if there is going to be anyone left to pay the bills. Obama will take care of everyone
This is a very good article. Now is the time for all who love their country to do what they can to TEACH our fellow citizens, including our children, about the dangers inherent in socialism.
This article is a great starting point.
We will use it in our homeschooling classes to supplement our curriculum.
Vote for Obama cuz I need the money.
