The “winning” issue has nothing to do with the bottom of the ticket. If John McCain picked any of the leftover white guys as his VP, he would be 20 points down today, not 2 or 3 down.

The press destroys Governor Palin, yet they do nothing to show how utterly incompetent Joe Biden is.

Joe Biden voted against the first Gulf War, voted FOR the current “unpopular” Gulf War, pushed for the failed policy of a Nuclear Freeze and wanted to divide Iraq into three pieces, giving Iran a stronghold there if it was implemented.

Add the “jobs” is a three letter word and FDR on TV in 1929 for a little effect, and there you go.

The “moderates” that complain about Palin have to do a little intellectual yoga to move over to Obama and Biden because they don't like Palin. That argument sounds like the crap I've read on the liberal blogs, not FR.

Why then are you spewing derision on the “religious right”? You’re remarks to keep the religious right out of politics are very hypocritical in my opinion. And also, what point of view of Sarah Palin do you disagree with?

By the way, Sarah Palin has not been wearing her religion on her sleave at all. Maybe you’ve been a bit biased in your judgement of her or drinking from the MSM kool-aid. I’m sure she would be much nicer to you than you have been to her.

Thanks for linking that video. Great stuff.

This is the first time I’ve ever regretted living in a red state...no chance of Sarah coming to visit here.

“...As a conservative site, Free Republic is pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-Constitution, pro-Bill of Rights, pro-gun, pro-limited government, pro-private property rights, pro-limited taxes, pro-capitalism, pro-national defense, pro-freedom, and-pro America. We oppose all forms of liberalism, socialism, fascism, pacifism, totalitarianism, anarchism, government enforced atheism, abortionism, feminism, homosexualism, racism, wacko environmentalism, judicial activism, etc. We also oppose the United Nations or any other world government body that may attempt to impose its will or rule over our sovereign nation and sovereign people. We believe in defending our borders, our constitution and our national sovereignty.

You know what? You have me on ninety-eight percent. But if you choose to kick me to the door because of the two on which we disagree, then you deserve to lose this election and many others....because my dismay at what the religious right is doing to this party is shared by many, many other people.

Thanks, Dream Warrior. You are right that the numbers WERE higher for McCain initially. Thanks for pointing that out, because I was careless in what I wrote. However, your numbers for Gore are not accurate. All the records I have seen place the Jewish vote for Gore-Lieberman in 2000 between 77 and 80 percent. Kerry got about 76-78 percent.

Obama started out in this campaign garnering a measly 60 percent or thereabouts, signaling an increase in receptiveness by Jews toward a Republican candidate, just as you say. However, since the Palin pick for VP, the numbers have declined precipitously:

Jewish Voters for Obama versus McCain

Gallup July: Obama 61, McCain 34
Gallup August: Obama 66, McCain 25
Gallup September: Obama 69, McCain 25
Gallup October: Obama 74, McCain 22
(Margin of Error +/- 5)

American Jewish Committee survey (September): 34 percent of Jewish respondents approved of the Palin pick and 57 percent disapproved.

I think it’s pretty clear that the Palin pick has alienated Jewish voters. Maybe it’s because of the fundamentalism, and maybe it is just because she appears unqualified. But McCain would not have chosen this unqualified candidate if he had not been trying so hard to pacify the right fringe of the base.

I pretty much agree with everything you wrote about the Democratic ticket. Joe Biden should be nowhere near the White House, and Obama should be even LESS near.

Unfortunately, however, the bottom of the ticket cannot help but take on more significance than usual when your Presidential candidate is the oldest candidate on record and a three-time cancer survivor. Actuarial tables suggest that this particular VP choice has a pretty significant chance of landing in the Oval Office before McCain’s term is up. At least enough of a chance to make some people very uncomfortable.

You make a very good point that she has not worn her religion on her sleeve, and I do appreciate that very much.

My opposition to her is based on the fact that there is no way McCain would have chosen such an unqualified candidate if he had not been trying to pacify the social fundamentalists in the party. She is NOT ready for this office. Maybe she will be someday, but she clearly is not now, as evidenced by her repeated abysmal performance in interviews and the fact that the campaign has to keep her under wraps. She was chosen purely because she appeals to the fundamentalist segment of the Republican base. It was a cynical and pandering pick, and it has made many people think twice about McCain’s judgment and all his claims to put country first.

Let me clarify my posts, because you may be right that my wording was poor and insulting to you. I apologize for that. Let me clarify that I wholly support your right to participate in the political process and to back the candidate you choose. However, I ask that you afford me the same rights, including the right to express dismay when I see people who are not fundamentalist being told to “find the door” on boards like this. I believe that the religious right is harming the party now. I think it’s important for Goldwater conservatives to speak out and prevent pandering choices like the Palin pick. I am hoping that, if the worst happens and Obama wins next week, the party will have learned from this mistake by McCain.

I hate to keep cutting & pasting, but I'm too lazy to rewrite what I've said before-- Here' what I've noted before:

Seriously, the McCain campaign shouldn’t be bitching about the lady that’s doing the majority of the work to get them elected.  They should shut the f up and realize that she resonates w/ real people, and not the so-called elites they’ve surrounded themselves with.

Absolutely right.

Remember, my wife was the former Democrat ( Southern, Conservative, mind you, not MoonBat. Think Orson Scott Card. ) who stood up, in the middle of McCain’s first introduction of Sarah, the week before the acceptance speech, and loudly declared “I want to vote for that woman!”

And none of the dirt they’ve tried to throw has done anything besides making Miss Emily dig her heels in.

If anything salvages McCain’s otherwise lame campaign, it will be Joe the Plumber…

...and Sarah.

Let me expand on that, a little:Sarah is the future. If McCain had picked anyone else, I would have been tempted to not even vote, and let America "get what she wants so bad." Good & Hard. People get the kind of government they want, and deserve. McCain is the past (and so is Barry- communism is so passe' ) but he sees the future- and that's her.

I left the Presbyterian Church in 1970 because they took a hard turn left and supported North Viet Nam while I was serving my country in the Marines. It is the watered down “Christian lite” churches that will destroy this country.

McCain deserves credit for selecting Palin and perhaps saving the conservative movement.

But Cindy McCain deserves great credit too. She was ultimately his closest adviser on this—and she encouraged him to select the beautiful, younger governor. This is something a wife could easily not have done, and yet she probably saved his campaign by prompting him to make the move.

Give me a good, old-fashioned Goldwater Republican, please, and keep the religious right out of politics.

Something that you and all of the other hyphenated conservatives seem unable to grasp is that conservatism was intrinsically flawed when it only addressed fiscal and defense issues.

Barry Goldwater was the GOP's McGovern, he lost in a landlide.

Reagan understood that conservatism MUST also address social issues and THAT made conservatism complete and Reagan won two landslides.

So, next time you long for another "good old-fashioned Goldwater Republican," just remember how THAT turned out the first time.

Balderdash. Palin is the most popular Governor in America. McCain chose smart. That you bitch shows a disdain for the social conservatives that makes me ill. Is abortion your hot button? Or is it the queer agenda?

Ok. You are 1.

Your bandwidth.

You’ve run your buffer out, and more of the movie needs to load before you continue to watch it. This can happen several times during the video, depending on your connection speed.

Ok. You are 1.

I'll say that I don't like coronations. If McCain wins then Palin may be the nominee in 8 years. If McCain loses then she may be the nominee in 4. Either way she's going to have to work for it. I'm not willing to just hand it to her. And I guarantee she's going to have more than a few competitors.

The only reason Biden videos get any hits is because conservatives need a good laugh.

As for Palin, my tagline speaks for me. She is a gift from Heaven to us, and like McCain, I can’t wait for her to get to Washington.

The lesson of this election is that McCain would be winning today if he hadn’t picked Palin and alienated so many of the moderate voters he needs.

[cough]BULLSHT[cough]

Yes, completely LAUGHABLE bullsqueeze.

Now, that piece of ignorant political analysis being given its all due respect, would you mind telling us where Palin has used "derisive tones" against non-believers or those of other faiths?

Methinks you're suffering from the same PDS as the left, and for the exact same reason.

See, leftists, usually women, complain that Palin is "shoving her religion down our throats" when she's doing NOTHING OF THE SORT. She's just LIVING, and living her life in a walk with God.

The CONVICTION that folks feel is seeing their own lives reflected, and poorly, in her life.
