Crist Extends Early Voting Hours in Florida, Dismays Republicans

Crist extends voting hours

This is a very big deal: Florida Governor Charlie Crist, to the shock and dismay of Florida Republicans, just moved to extend early voting hours, a move likely to widen the Democrats' lead under a program on which the Obama campaign has intensely focused.

"He just blew Florida for John McCain," one plugged in Florida Republican just told me.

I hate to browbeat anybody..especially in a internet forum...but some of you want to be upset for the sake of being upset.

By extending the hours..he has extended the chances for Republicans to get in line to vote.

all this time..only the jobless and drug dealers could vote from 7am to 3pm on a friggin weekday.

THINK people.

Yeah, same Politico that knifed Fred Thompson with a ridiculous rumor in Iowa.

FL has 67 counties, now we can have MORE REPUBLICANS OUT TO VOTE.

The wind is at mccain’s back and we want more people to go over to him now.

Obama is trying to rush people to the polls before they find out more about him.

NOW mccain and palin can do more FL ralies and bring MORE people in to vote at the same hour.

Does the governor have the legal right to do this?

Crist is a maroon.

As a Floridian, I hope that he has been promised a spot in 0bama’s cabinet for this action so we can get him out of Tallahassee.

Crist has been on a mission to sabotage McCain for weeks now. Guess his feelings were hurt when McCain chose Palin instead of him as his running mate.

I don’t understand, tho, how a governor can unilaterally change election laws. Isn’t that the bailiwick of the legislature? Does it change from state to state?

If early voting is so important to the Obama campaign and their troops so enthusiastic, why did they want the time extended ?

I think the idea is that a greater percentage of potential Obama voters are lazy and/or stupid and they have to be rounded up and dragged to the polls. Extending voting hours gives the ‘Rats more time to round more of them up.

Whether it helps or hurts one side, I don’t have a big issue with this one way or another. What bothers me is election day tricks where the Dems find a friendly judge to keep polls open longer in say — East St Louis only, but not the rest of Missouri.

And if a Rat is prevented from voting early due to long lines is he/she going to just skip showing up on election day? The logic does not make sense.

I any event, I do not like early voting as a matter of principle. We should have an Election DAY. First Tuesday after First Monday, when the nation as a whole renders a verdict.

This is a good idea. I have several republican friends who’ve wanted to go early vote for McCain/Palin but turned around and went home after seeing the long lines.

"I believe that there is a lot of early Republican turnout just to ensure that they get their vote in rather than wait to the last minute."

In Colorado, our state GOP specifically asked us to vote early because it will simplify their efforts of tracking down Republicans who haven't voted yet. We weren't planning on voting early until we got that email. My wife already has and I will tomorrow...hopefully.

“Wait a minute. I don’t get it. How come extending early voting is a Democrat thing? Can’t Republicans vote early too? What’s the problem? And don’t the majority of absentee ballots comprise of GOP votes?”

I agree with you! I think it is just more comfortable for the elderly to have more chances to vote...and they will vote for McCain as much as Obama. I see this as a wash even though historically less Dems vote....I don’t think the historical nature will work during this election....

They need the extra time to go from polling place to polling place, multi-voting for The Messiah...

Gov. Crist — having lost the nod to become McCain’s VP — is now behaving EXACTLY as the “Woman Scorned” ——— as expected..

Fagots can be so bitchy!

Well... okay. I guess. But my sense is that if people haven’t made their minds up yet with the information already out there, they’re just not going to get MORE informed in a week.

The information about 0bama is OUT THERE. It’s CLEAR who he is and what he stands for. It’s been clear for months!

Honestly I wish the election could be done already.

“I believe that there is a lot of early Republican turnout just to ensure that they get their vote in rather than wait to the last minute.”

This also assures any ACORN workers or people taking off work on Nov. 4th do not clog up voting. I think it is a positive for Republicans, esp. in FL

Why does it matter? Why would McCain object? Voting is voting, early or not. Best to get a bunch of it out of the way to avoid mob scenes on the day itself. I just don’t see what the big deal is or why it’s so horrible.

First -— I need to remind you we’re a REPUBLIC, NOT a Democracy...(yet)

Second -— When the Democrats are the side of the equation with the most established record for VOTE FRAUD —— the longer you give the crooks to go from poll to poll casting multiple votes or hauling the homeless, transients or bums from gutter to polls is a benefit to THEM, giving MORE time to conduct their voter fraud.....
