McCain attacks Obama on redistribution

Obama, talking about the civil rights movement and Supreme Court, says: "I think where it succeeded was to invest formal rights in previously dispossessed peoples so that I would now have the right to vote, I would now be able to sit at the lunch counter and order [and] as long as I could pay for it I would be OK. But the Supreme Court never ventured into the issues of redistribution of wealth and sort of more basic issues of political and economic justice in this society." Calling it one of the "tragedies" of the movement, he added that there was "a tendency to lose track of the political and community organizing and activities on the ground that are able to put together the actual coalitions of power through which you bring about redistributive change and in some ways we still suffer from that."

CQ Transcript:
Barack Obama Interviewed on ABC’S “Good Morning America”:

ROBERTS (voice-over): If he is worried about taking time off of the campaign trail, he showed no signs of it. Even as the McCain- Palin ticket continue their attack on his quote to the now-infamous Joe the plumber.

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

OBAMA: I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for it.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

SEN. JOHN MCCAIN, R-ARIZ.: The redistribution of wealth is the last thing America needs right now.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

ROBERTS (on camera): Any regrets that you...

OBAMA: No.

ROBERTS: No. Not that you met Joe the plumber, but the fact that you said, “Spread the wealth”?

OBAMA: Not at all.

I received this in an email today -- thought it was very appropriate:

Today on my way to lunch I passed a homeless guy with a sign that read "Vote Obama, I need the money," I laughed.

Once in the restaurant my server had on a "Obama 08" tie, again I laughed as he had given away his political preference--just imagine the coincidence.

When the bill came I decided not to tip the server and explained to him that I was exploring the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. He stood there in disbelief while I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone who I deemed more in need--the homeless guy outside. The server angrily stormed from my sight.

I went outside, gave the home less guy $10 and told him to thank the server inside as I've decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful.

At the end of my rather unscientific redistribution experiment I realized the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was pretty angry that I gave away the money he did earn even though the actual recipient deserved money more.

I guess redistribution of wealth is an easier thing to swallow in concept than in practical application.

Don't you just love that haughty arrogant way these condescending liberals peddle their pablum. They go on these NPR type shows and try and bask in their own brilliance. Along the lines of Joe Biden’s slap away of that reporters question..”Oh what I have explain it to you plebe, you couldn’t understand”(New England Lockjaw accent optional)

It’s terrifying, what our country is on the verge of doing to itself.

I was speaking to an older guy who is a doctor earlier this week. I always knew he was from another country, but I never knew from where. He was talking about how much Hussein scared him, and reminded him of a charismatic young politician in the country his family came from. That charismatic young politician the doctor was referring to was Fidel Castro. He said that the rhetoric of Hussein is VERY similar to that of Castro when he was arriving on the scene in Cuba. At least the doctor’s family had a better, free country to flee to. Where do we have to go?

I have long maintained the redistribution of wealth is the key to victory for McCain/Palin. Americans hate the idea! The idea that if you work hard to make something of yourself only to have the government step in, take it away and give it to someone who didn’t earn it repulses most Americans. In the few remaining days of the campaign, I hope Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin keep on hitting obama with redistribution of wealth calling it what it is - SOCIALISM!
