Editorial: President of the United States
Fort Worth Star-Telegram ^ | Editors

Posted on 10/28/2008 2:00:59 PM PDT by Froggie

...John McCain’s love of country and passion for public service are indisputable. He can never be thanked enough for the suffering and sacrifice he endured on behalf of his fellow soldiers during his honorable and heroic military service. In a different time and under different circumstances, he likely would have been our choice for president. But 2008 is not his time. There is no perfect presidential candidate. If fully funded, the policy proposals put forward by both candidates, with their unaffordable promises, would exacerbate the country’s already-outrageous budget deficits. Obama’s position on free trade is troubling, but what he’s saying on the stump in an attempt to garner labor votes in swing states is harsher than what has been articulated in his books. In a right-to-work-state like Texas, which plays a vital role in NAFTA’s economic space, political and business leaders are not interested in changing the free-trade agreement. We remain unconvinced by the harsh and often hateful criticisms of Obama’s character and his motivation for seeking the White House. That’s fear talking, and it is unbecoming in a nation that professes to believe every child can achieve the dream of serving our country through elected office. Barack Obama’s performance throughout this two-year presidential campaign has been extraordinary. He has never blown his cool under enormous pressure and vicious attacks. He has continued to speak of bringing our nation together to work for the "more perfect union" that our forefathers envisioned. That is indicative of what Americans can and should expect of a commander in chief when the unexpected occurs — and it will occur. The Star-Telegram recommends Barack Obama for president of the United States.

Great editorial (sarcasm) .. they list all the reason Obama isn't qualified for the job then endorse him!

I hope I'm not the only one who cancelled his subscription to this paper! Lots of angry letters to the editor in today's paper so at least they are hearing about their endoresement of this Marxist.

Another paper that knows if O doesn’t win they’re history. If he does win they’re history as far as journalism goes but they hope they’ll have a job. If not they can get $9.50 minimum wage to work at Mcdonalds. Until the depression hits and there are no Mcdonalds.

“That’s fear talking, and it is unbecoming in a nation that professes to believe every child can achieve the dream of serving our country through elected office.”

WTF? Is the author trying to say that literally everyone is qualified for public office? What if Obama really is a leftist? Is that not a reason to deny him the presidency?

Glad to hear people are writing in and sharing their displeasure. I’m very surprised that in such a conservative state as TX the paper would endorse Zero. Thanks for sharing with us Froggie.

It’s a McClatchey paper. I believe each of their 30 dailies, from the reddest red state, to the bluest blue endorsed Obama. Probably a coincidence. heh.

Yea, NAFTA is wonderful.

Fascinatingly shallow for so many column inches.

“Barack Obama’s performance throughout this two-year presidential campaign has been extraordinary. He has never blown his cool under enormous pressure and vicious attacks”

There you have it, yet another wise outlet of the MSM pointing to the fact that Obama is running for president as Obama’s sole qualification for the presidency. Hey, Morgan Freeman played a pretty convincing president on the silver screen, Harrison Ford too. Can we elect one of them next time?

This is really a surprise endorsement. This is definitely not a conservative newspaper. Very interesting.

The Dallas Morning News is conservative. The Fort Worth Star Telegram is moderate to liberal. This is actually a meaningful endorsement.

And Ft Worth is typically very conservative. Again, they’re afraid of what O will do if he wins and they endorsed McCain. They KNOW McCain still believes in the constitution.

Opps, my fault. Guess I should have read all the way to the end. Like I said up above, this is fairly liberal paper. They always endorse the Democrat. No surpise.

Like all endorsements of Obama this one says, Obama should win the campaign because he is a good campaigner.

No substantive achievements are ever cited to justify the choice. The problem with this choice is that it exposes the nation not just to a man who is grotesquely unqualified for the office but it exposes the nation to a potential demagogue. And for what? Because he is a good campaigner.

Wow, did you hear that the Fort-Worth Star Telegram endorsed Barak Obama????

No fooling, but who didn’t see that coming?

Why does the MSM insist on being SO OBVIOUS!!!

Vote next Tuesday for the one who doesn’t espouse Marxism (and that’s his good side!) - Vote for John McCain!

Fort Worth IS very conservative, but the paper is not. Go figure. Tarrant County is a Republican stronghold (as is Texas of course). This endorsement won’t effect anything.

I picked up on the comment about “economic inequities” - so the Star Telegram believes in the Socialist idea of taking from the rich to give to the poor I guess.....

Our local talk show host, Mark Davis, who has filled in for Rush on occasion used to write an article for the Star Telegram. He doesn’t anymore. Too liberal. He now writes a weekly for the Dallas News.

Tarrant County is the most GOP county in TEXAS and the local rag endorses the Marxist POS.

Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Good lord. Fort Worth, Texas. Texas for crying out loud. How in the H-E-L-L could a paper in Texas outside of Austin endorse a socialist? How does this happen? What in the world is going on? I am really depressed by this. This is NOT good for our country, our Republic. Have we lost the Republic as Franklin warned?
