Sarah Palin says she doesn't wear the clothes anymore that have been in focus since it was revealed the Republican National Committee spent $150,000 to outfit her and her family with designer items from posh stores.
Addressing the controversy on the campaign trail in Florida Sunday, Palin told a crowd she's "back to wearing my own clothes from my favorite consignment shop in Anchorage, Alaska."
That shop is called "Out of the Closet" and its owner, Ellen Arvold, told Early Show co-anchor Julie Chen Monday that Palin's been wearing similar outfits on the stump to what she buys at the shop.
Palin "started shopping here while she was running for governor, so it's been about three years," Arvold said.
"She shops for herself mostly," Arvold continued, "but she often brings her daughters with her, and they will pick out some things for themselves. She likes jackets. She buys kind of classic, feminine, fitted jackets. She likes leather jackets. Her girls have bought jeans here and also some jackets and knit tops."
Prices in "Out of the Closet" vary widely, Arvold said, "from a knit top for $16 to a handbag for $800, but our prices are generally very reasonable. I would say a normal price for a jacket would be between $40 and $100."
Arvold wouldn't say how much Palin typically spends at the shop "because she's a client, and I value her privacy. But I think she could probably come in and buy our whole store three-times-over for $150,000!"
Asked if the clothes she sells look much different from what we've been seeing Palin wear on the campaign trail, Arvold replied, "I don't really think her style has changed too much. She still wears beautiful suits, tailored jackets that are feminine, but still classic. I've seen her wear, you know, her typical high heels and boots. So, no, I don't think her style has changed too much. I have only seen a few pieces that she's bought here on the campaign trail, but, no, I think she looks great."
Aren't Americans allowed to spend their money the way they like?
I though you guys lived in a free country?
Let’s see..... the Mediascum have time to examine Sarah Palin’s wardrobe but have yet to give any serious scrutiny to the FACT that Obama’s FOUR closest political/social allies in his 15-20 year political rise are all total scumbags. These are not mere “associations” which is totally the wrong word for what were close personal friendships and political ALLIANCES. Can anyone name anyone from before this presidential campaign who was closer to Obama (besides his leftist wife of course) than these four scumbags:
Tony Rezko (convicted felon who provided Obama’s first campaign contributions and arranged discounted purchase of Obama’s mansion along with slice of neighboring lot for Obama’s garden)
Bill Ayers (proud, unrepentant terrorist scumbag who launched Obama’s electoral career in his living room, provided Obama with his only educational and foundation experience with CAC and then Woods Foundation, etc.)
Jeremiah Wright (ranting leftist Afro-centric racist who damns Amerikkka and rails about “America’s chickens have come home to roost” in 9/11 attacks)
Rashid Khalidi (close friend in Obama’s own heartfelt testimony at dinner honoring Khalidi — this is a former official of the terrorist PLO and is an ardent flack and apologist for Islamo-fascist terrorism)
Then of course we can add Obama’s favorite mentor and guide from his youth, the communist pedophile Frank Marshall Davis......
Obama either has the worst “luck” in the world in choosing scumbags as friends, allies, mentors or else he consciously chooses people who are hostile to American life and values. Gee, which is it?
Also, as has been well said by others, what did each of these scumbags see in OBAMA?? Why did Ayers et al view Obama as THEIR friend and ally?? Why did THEY so much want to be close to HIM???
“Aren’t Americans allowed to spend their money the way they like?”
Obviously not!
“I though you guys lived in a free country?”
Sort of. For now. Unless Obama gets in.
“No average person spends $800 on a handbag.”
Don’t be so quick to say that. As a guy, I would say that but I’ve seen my mother-in-law spend that much on a purse... much to my amazement. She has a collection of purses with a number of them over $500 from the last 20 years or so. Her last big purse purchase was for $850. And she isn’t rich...
I made a deal with my wife that if she didn’t buy an $800 purse I would always stop at her favorite place to buy ice tea when ever she wanted (easy agreement because she really doesn’t understand her mother’s thing for expensive purses).
Oh, if you want a real good insight to how ‘bent’ some of these folk are, read the comments to this article on CBS. (Same link)
We're already on it. 20 years ago, her dog crapped on someone's lawn. 15 years ago she drank a whole bottle of beer. 10 years ago, she said "Darn it!" in front of children. 5 years ago, she gave Palin a discount on some clothing. And, to top it all, last year she parked her car too close to someone's driveway!
More scandals tonight at 6 pm and 11 pm.
Tonight at 9, instead of the previously scheduled NFL game, we will run a 2 hour special on Ellen, looking into every detail of her life. All sides of the family, back 4 generations. Be there!
Ahem, I never heard Sarah say she shopped at a”goodwill store”
Neither would I say that a “GOVERNOR” is an ordinary person.
My wife is a big purse person as well. However - it is the cheap, normal ones. “Don’t you already have a purse like that?” “Sort of, but the other one is brown. And it doesn’t have a snap on the pocket like this one does. Plus, this was on sale - only $28!”
Thankfully that is about her only weakness when it comes to buying things.
“right for the AP” = “write for the AP”.. or maybe just a freudian slip....
Well, Michelle Xantippe Osamabama has already said, in so many words, that her preferred type of earrings run about $500/pair.
LOL! I noticed that too late.
Just the other day Rush Limbaugh observed how Republicans spend $100,000 getting women into clothes while Democrats spend $100,000 getting women out of them.
This is absolutely incredible. They send a reporter to the consignment shop!
“Sarah has the nerve to shop at stores that sell $800 handbags!!”
My wife inventories stores where an $800 handbag is the cheapest one in the joint.
You seemed to forget that Obama used his campaign plane to to Hawaii for his earlier vacation with just he, Michelle and the kids. That makes it $800K for his personall use!
My wife paid 600 for one last year; we're completely normal.
You know, this whole clothing flap may turn out to be a good thing for Sarah.
She shops second-hand. Store owner confirms it. She’s an ordinary penny-pinching American mom. She’s one of us, like Joe in Ohio.
Kinda nice, and I think it’s resonating.
You may be normal, but you aren’t “average”.
However, if Obama gets elected that will change.
“And the trees are all kept equal,
by hatchet, axe, and saw”
Why is this news? Why is the msm looking on where she buys her clothes? This is really making me mad! Freakin mud rackers!
Just wanted to expand on a thought here for your edification.
Purses for women are like buying pistols and rifles for gun guys. Admittedly they get more "utility" frmo their purses than ours.
Just accept it and move on if you want a happy marriage.
