The Biden Doctrine
Washington Times ^ | October 26, 2008 | Robert Turner

The conventional wisdom seems to be that, by selecting the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee - a veteran of more than 35 years as a Washington insider - as his vice-presidential running mate, Sen. Barack Obama has more than adequately compensated for his own total lack of foreign policy and national security experience. I have been waiting patiently but in vain for two months on the assumption the media would investigate and report on Sen. Joe Biden's record, but it hasn't happened.

The conduct of our foreign relations and the command of our military are among the most important functions entrusted to the president under our Constitution, and Mr. Biden's record in these areas is abysmal. From his first year in the Senate in 1973, he was a consistent foe of the American military.

Testing you can believe in

In Seattle last week, Sen. Joe Biden tried to reassure voters that if his boss is elected, "we're gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy." It all boils down to a simple three-letter word: Test! "I can give you four or five scenarios from where it might originate," he said, adding that when the crisis hits, "it won't be six months" into Obama's term. "Mark my words," he said soothingly. (Whatever we're secretly paying this guy -- double it!)

In response to Biden's qualms about Obama and predictions of world crisis if Obama is elected, the New York Times resumed it's probe of Sarah Palin's wardrobe.

But in his remarks, Biden quickly added that when the crisis erupts, it's no time to panic since Obama's "gonna need help." And the "kind of help he's gonna need is, he's gonna need you . . . to stand with him . . . because it's not gonna be apparent that we're right." Oh dear. What was Biden prattling about with that last comment? The press tried to answer that by delving deeper into Sarah Palin's wardrobe.

Who knows, maybe Biden was thinking of swift and decisive action by Obama, such as sending Nancy Pelosi in a headscarf to Iran? While there, she can have her picture taken with Ahmadinejad (though he's recently fallen ill due to exhaustion from his heavy workload of killing off gays). Or maybe send Pelosi with a full supporting cast -- John Murtha, Harry Reid, Bill Ayers, Frank Rich . . . I can give you four or five scenarios.

(By the way, in light of his nagging unease about Obama, someone should ask Biden if he plans to vote for McCain.)

When Biden was babbling recently about FDR's penchant for giving fireside chats on TV during the 'Great Depression' of the 1920s, a good chunk of the media, being their little 'fair and balanced' selves, refused to play it up or even call it a massive gaffe, so now Biden makes a candid remark about the manifestly obvious -- Zero is a wuss and a juicy testing target -- and the media are quick to call it a 'MASSIVE GAFFE!'

Except that this wasn't the first time Biden made a revealing statement of the well-documented, which the media swiftly labels a gaffe (if it suits their fancy). Back during the Democrat primaries, Biden complimented Obama as not ready to be president and noted (in another 'gaffe'!) that the presidency -- unlike messiahships -- doesn't "lend itself to on-the-job-training." He added that "right now, I don't believe [Obama] is ready [to be president]." In one of the debates, moderator George Stephanopoulos demanded to know if he still stood by that statement five long seconds later, to which Biden replied, "I stand by the statement."

The media and the pundits insist it's a gaffe to say Obama's zero experience would be tested, especially since Hussein's whole bag is "restoring" America's image in the world. Jug Ears promises to make America "respected" in the world "again" by pledging to (a) get easily defeated in Iraq, (b) talk things over with Iran's nuclear mullahs (no preconditions), (c) strongly support Israel by not classifying terrorists at war with Israel as *terrorists*, (d) stop designating the War on Terror as a War on Terror, (e) be a pushover for the useless Euro-sissies, the U.N., Russia, but vowing to come down hard on Georgia rhetorically if it doesn't react with restraint to being invaded. So, yes, why anyone thinks a limp-wristed pantywaist community organizer would be tested is a real mystery.

If the message underneath the message in Biden's non-gaffe "gaffe" is what you're looking for, it's what he didn't say -- that the chap flying the fighter jet shot down over Hanoi in 1967 and who endured the gracious reception of his captors for 5-plus years, shoulders, knees and arms broken, bayonet wound near the groin, the repeated beatings, telling his Vietnamese "hosts" to take a hike when offered early release (no deal unless all go home). If you can endure hell like that, there's nothing to test. Put Obama through a fraction of what McCain went through and the Vietnamese would get another collaborator. That's the real meaning of the Biden "gaffe" even if you assume he's stupid enough to think that guaranteeing we'll all be heading for the hills within six months of Zero's election is a winning message.

Anyway, that's...
My Two Cents...
