Doonesbury is doomed.
...
One lesson the book provided was simply that the put on is mightier than the put down. Insults are easy as any observer of the current election cycle can attest. Ragging on the opposition with grace and humor takes intelligence. When humor is lost, so is ones advantage.
This is why Garry Trudeau is sunk.
A pair of Sunday comics paints such a stark contrast between political observation and humor that it shows why old comics should fade away. On this day both Garry Trudeau (Doonesbury) and Chris Muir (Day by Day) opined on current issues and on Joe the Plumber. Muir showed finesse while Trudeau showed contempt ....
...
In todays strip Muir pokes fun at the main stream media (MSM) of whom Garry Trudeau is a dues paying member in good standing (if good is the appropriate adjective).
...
Trudeaus toon however has no humor, which is an odd stylistic choice for a comic strip (note to Trudeau - comic derives from the same root as comedy).

Trudeau was in my local newspaper until some of us protested, now he no longer appears in the Sunday edition. Wonder why?
You can also go back to his first strip and go through them all (it will take a while), there's some great ones there.
I’m a daily Day by Day subscriber, that and Pearls Before Swine, Dilbert, and Calvin and Hobbes.

Right about this. Sadly, Doonesbury has been shrill for the last 20 years. Our local paper, The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle - which is better described as the Rochester Democrats' Chronicle - insists on putting this on the comic page rather than the editorial page where it belongs (if anywhere.)
Ah, yes. Trudeau takes the oft-used “the Republican is stupid” tack.
Isn’t it great that we can always depend on the liberals to resort to the most basic and childish of arguments? “Oh, yeah? Well you’re STUPID!”
Sarah Palin is a popular and successful governor? “Oh, yeah? well she’s STUPID, too!”
Sigh.
Lot’s of good cartoons at gopachy.com every weekday.
Thanks for this, guy. Trudeau is an even bigger sleazebag than I realized.
Her career: 1976- NBC News (correspondent)
1976-90 The Today Show (correspondent)
1980-82 NBC Nightly News (reporter/principal writer)
1982-83 Early Today (co-anchor)
1990- NBC Nightly News (substitute anchor)
1990-91 Real Life with Jane Pauley (principal correspondent)
1992- Dateline NBC (co-host)
I must say, that Trudeau strip is truly moronic.
He’s a full blown creep.
