California's first lady says she is voting against a ballot initiative that would prohibit same-sex couples from getting married in California.
Maria Shriver said in an interview with KNBC-TV in Los Angeles that she is voting no on Proposition 8.
Shriver said, "I believe in people's right to choose a partner that they love, and that's a decision that I have come to, and I have felt that way for a long time."
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger also opposes Prop. 8.
i wonder if she and he are planning on leaving the Catholic Church?

She’s liberal, she’s oh so tolerant, yadda yadda yadda. of course she favors homosexual marriage. no surprise.
I want to see how tolerant all these people are when we go to group marriage and polygamy. All these people say you should be able to marry the person of your choice, etc. What they don’t yet understand is that limiting marriage to 2 people is itself discriminatory against those who want polygamy or groups. They themselves are limiting marriage to a couple concept. Just wait until the courts start ruling that we have to have polygamy.
It’s coming. That door is wide open now. It’s coming whether we like it or not. The only way to stop it would be to vote in favor of traditional marriage and Prop. 8 in Calif. 27 out of 50 states have defined marriage via constitutional amendment. Clearly the same-sex marriage movement is out of step with public opinion.
But these people don’t care. We have to be tolerant. We have to prove how liberal we are.
Just wait and see where this kind of attitude gets us eventually.
I still do not see how they proove they are gay! Let’s file a lawsuit ..make em proove it.
Yeah well Maria, my dear, what happens when some guy decides to marry his daughter?
They will be all for it. The goal is the distruction of marriage and the family unit. They have the children in their grasp with public education.
What if it's a dog, or a coffee table, or 10 year old triplets, that they "love" Maria? You people make me sick.
This is a good point. You’re probably joking but there’s some truth to what you say. People who are just friends could get “married” just to get gov’t benefits.
For example, I understand that student loan calculations for college students give far more financial aid to married college students. The thinking is that they are independent of their families. What’s to stop two college girls from getting “married” and claiming more aid than they are entitled to? You’re right; are we going to ask people to prove they are having a sexual relationship?
I expect same-sex marriage among college students to sharply increase unless they change the standards on college financial aid. They are up to three states now with some major famous universities (Harvard, MIT, Yale, Stanford) in these states.
It was a joke but now that you mention it????
The Prop does not tell ANYONE who they can “love”. What it does do is say that the majority of moral Americans will not be required by the Government to legitimize other peoples choices.
Mrs Shriver is off base on thios as is her husbamd and the rest of the left.
“The only way to stop it would be to vote in favor of traditional marriage”
We did in ‘04.
I always bring this up when I talk to a supporter of gay marriage and they always cringe. They don't like polygamy but, using their logic to support gay marriage, they have no good argument against it, after all isn't it unfail to stop people from marrying anyone they want, and as many as they want?
Prop 8 will win easily though despite ahhnold and wifie.
Arnold is term limited and will most likely be followed by a dem who will have a dem state house. While is is prolly the biggest RINO around, you ain’t seen nuthin yet.
I hate to see CA and the US at large with an all-dem gov’t. We probably can’t save CA, but we still have a chance to save the US on Nov 4.
‘to each his own’ said the democrat as he fondled his cow.
Some say that Jerry Brown is going to run for Calif. governor in 2010. Even though he already has served two terms as governor, that happened before they passed the term limit law. So he says he can legally run for governor again.
Even though it would be against the spirit of the term limit law, Jerry Brown may try to return to the governor’s office.
Clearly the same-sex marriage movement is out of step with nature.
