I do a good bit of traveling in my line of work, and have taken care to notice political signs in peoples' yards.
In the last month, I've been to Iowa, West Virginia, Oklahoma, Virginia, and Missouri. (I live in NC)
Now, I know that this is only my impression, but I can't get over the number of McCain signs I've seen, as opposed to the (lack of) Obama signs. With the exception of a very small part of West Virginia/Iowa, I haven't seen a significant number of Obama signs anywhere. Where are all these supporters?
Oklahoma/Virginia didn't surprise me, but Missouri? I thought I'd read that Obama was ahead in Missouri, and I bet the number of McCain to Obama signs ratio at least 5 to 1. Even in the case of the person supporting the Democrat Gubernatorial candidate, the house didn't have an Obama sign.
Seems strange to me. Any thoughts?
You don't have to answer, but how on earth did that come up in casual conversation?
I live in South Texas, and during the Primary there were Hillary signs all over the place. Now all I see is McCain/Palin signs. Hidalgo and Cameron County are Democrat strongholds in Texas.
I live in central Austin, Texas, otherwise known as the blueberry in a sea of red. It’s beautiful and would be even better if not for the number of old hippies and loudmouth liberals. There are more Obama than McCain signs without a doubt. Maybe 5-1. BUT!!! Most people aren’t displaying anything at all (shy Tory effect?) and in whispers we say that we are “undecided” and pretend not to care very much. I am a (legal) resident, not citizen so it’s the best I can do. Go out and vote FReepers, this election is close, or we are winning!!!
Someone threw up on my ex-daughter-in-law’s McCain sign. She was livid. No one has touched mine, but I’m in Orange Park, FL - Big-Time McCain territory.
Say, I’m new here and can’t find a faq for FR. Could someone post a link so I can learn how to mark discussions to come back to later? Also, how you post an animation or graphic?
Thanks. :)
I want to live where you live.
Last cycle, there were tons of Kerry stickers and some Bush stickers. I think there is truth to what others have said, that people, especially M/P supporters don't want to show their hands.
I'm under no illusion CA will go Republican, but I think people are holding their cards close to their vest this time around. I hope we're happily surprised on Nov. 4th.
Yes, it’s in the E corner of Howard County, near the Baltimore and Anne Arundel line.
Miami, FL
OBAMA
BI nla DIN
BIDEN
Everywhere.
Most of the ‘bammer stickers are on volvos with a “member KPBS” near San Diego State”
CT doesn't matter anyway (it'll go for Obama), but I am encouraged by your report, which includes several swing states... :o)
Drove from Milwaukee to Southern Ohio today (6-1/2 hours on interstates)... thru Chicago, Indiana and Ohio. I saw only one Obama bumper sticker and one McCain bumper sticker. Very odd.
"Friends don't let friends vote Republican"
and the oh so clever:
"Republicans for Voltermort"
The last one is kind of ironic. If Voltermort were real, then the Democrats would be insisting we appease rather than fight him.
::Waving:: Hi (apparent) neighbor! I wonder if we’re seeing the same one Obama sign. LOL.
We sure have been inundated with Obama ads on TV for the last few weeks. It’s clearly very effective here in San Diego. Ha ha.
I was in Chicago three weeks ago and was actually surprised how evenly split the signs were there. Being my old stomping grounds, and knowing it’s O’s “hometown” I figured it to be overwhelmingly pro-Obama, and that wasn’t the case most places I was.
What a Pinocchio.
Nice to meet another Republican in MD! I have found that when I come across another Rep, it is equivalent to finding an old friend from grade school.
We should come up with our own SECRET HAND SHAKE!
I see Obama signs in the usual areas, but also seeing McCain signs in areas that usually wouldn’t have ‘em.
West and north of Denver, Colorado.

I live in Indiana, in a very democratic city in Lake County, and have only seen 1 Obama sign (the people are black that own the house where the sign is). I am feeling hopeful that some of these dems will vote McCain.
I see waaaay more Franken signs than Obama signs in my suburb, though more Obama signs are popping up.
Yeeeesh. I am surrounded by idiots.
