Why don't I see Obama signs?

Posted on 10/24/2008 7:19:23 PM PDT by RangerM

I do a good bit of traveling in my line of work, and have taken care to notice political signs in peoples' yards.

In the last month, I've been to Iowa, West Virginia, Oklahoma, Virginia, and Missouri. (I live in NC)

Now, I know that this is only my impression, but I can't get over the number of McCain signs I've seen, as opposed to the (lack of) Obama signs. With the exception of a very small part of West Virginia/Iowa, I haven't seen a significant number of Obama signs anywhere. Where are all these supporters?

Oklahoma/Virginia didn't surprise me, but Missouri? I thought I'd read that Obama was ahead in Missouri, and I bet the number of McCain to Obama signs ratio at least 5 to 1. Even in the case of the person supporting the Democrat Gubernatorial candidate, the house didn't have an Obama sign.

Seems strange to me. Any thoughts?

I live in Baltimore, I understand where you are coming from.

I have lost business, friends, and clients just because of my political stance. I even try to obstain from political talk but when people start to trash McCain, Palin, soldiers, Pro-Lifers, Christians, I have a big problem with that!

Are you in Barney Frank’s district? Have you seen any poll numbers on him?

Stolen or the home vandalized. That was my suspicion.

The only way I could see Big O carrying NC would be Orange, Durham, and Mecklenburg Counties, so your observation isn’t surprising to me.

My in-laws live next door to a guy with an O sign (Wake County). My father-in-law is not a big McCain fan, but he winces almost everytime he looks at his neighbor’s front yard (sign). He and I will be “early voting” this Sunday at Wake Tech.

Obama No Merci Beaucoup

Poor James Statement : I am an oddity I admit, a guy with a life long love of music, art and literature, living in the sticks in a little cabin (built with my own hands) with my girlfriend, her two horses, three dogs, three cats, plus the occassional stray who drops by for brunch, and yet... I am a right-wing conservative. How can this be you ask? Quite simply, I have a built in, infallible bull-shit detector (gift from my dear ol' Dad.) I keep my feet planted firmly on the ground and observe what works for our country, and that is conservative ideals: hard work, personal responsibility, small government, fiscal restraint, honor, and duty to family and country. I also see what weakens our country: heavy taxation and redistribution, entitlements for non-producers, disdain for America and an increasingly flexible sense of right and wrong. Granted, as a songwriter, I have many lib associates whose wacky socialist views I endure, but I'll be damned if I'll have them anywhere near government or policy making. America did not exude from the ethereal herbal vapors of some drug inspired utopian manifesto, but was built purposefully upon solid ground by brilliant, brave, sober, God-fearing conservatives. About this song Obama No Merci Beaucoup. You may recall a month or so ago Mr. Obama bemoaning the dearth of mulit-lingual Americans whom, when traveling abroad, could but manage to mutter a paltry "merci beaucoup" (thankyou very much.) Hence the song title Obama No Merci Beaucoup (Obama, no thankyou very much.) If I were rich I would flood the media with independent anti-Obama ads. If I were a Hollywood actor I would defy those lame-brains and expose Mr. Obama's socialist nature before God and David Letterman. But alas, I am but a poor songwriter living in the sticks. We do what we can. I think you will find Obama No Merci Beaucoup hard hitting but fair. There are no cheap-shots. The lyrics are based on actual statements he has made, actions he has taken, and his published agenda. Pass it on to your conservative friends to rally them and any libs you may know to throw them off their game a bit. Download it, burn copies if you like, learn it and sing it. If we succeed in securing Mr Obama's defeat in November, we'll dance to it. Your most humble servant, Poor James

“No Obama sign, which I find odd, although her husband finally put a small oval Obama sticker on his Porche.”

I'll assume you're talking about his car (Porsche) and not the front part of his house. LOL

Of course why would a guy with a Porsche support Obama? The only answer I have is a riddle.

What's the difference between a Porcupine and a Porsche?
In a Porsche, the pricks are on the inside.

Does BO have roving bands of supporters who travel to his events?

Yes he does.

Lots of Obama signs in surburban DFW, Texas. Not many McPalin signs but one reason is the local Texas GOP office says they have none left and if you want one go buy one from McCain’s website ! I guess they consider this safe turf.

Whereabouts in the Metroplex? In Carrollton, there seem to be more McCain/Palin signs each day. In my subdivision, up north near Lewisville, the ratio is about 20:1 against Obama.

I haven't lived here that long, so this my first opportunity to size up my neighborhood, politics-wise. It was a pleasant surprise to see Republican signage spring up like this (and all since the final debate).

All his signs are residing here in the People’s Republic of Santa Monica; no seriously, I can’t turn around with tripping over one.

If you really want to lose your lunch, drive into any Whole Foods parking lot and you’ll see clusters of Obama stickers on the Mercedes, BMWs and Lexus.

On Wisconsin Ave. in Bethesda, Obama drones wander up and down the street during the work day, carrying big Obama signs. Some of them look like human debris, the same people who hold up he Bush = Hitler signs at the A.N.S.W.E.R. “anti-war” (anti-Israel, anti-capitalism) rallies on the Mall, or the orange ski-capped, pierced, tatooed, un-showered masses who throw rocks at the Morgan Stanley windows during the World Bank protests downtown.

Very few signs in this exurb in the Central Valley of California, especially compared to the Kerry/Edwards signs four years ago. This area is somewhat conservative but there are lots of Yuppies here also. I have looked for campaign bumper stickers but, again, comparatively few for either candidate.

As an aside, I’m thinking of acquiring an Obama/Biden sign to put out on my lawn November 5. I figure it might protect me from some sporadic vandalism by angered losers.

If I lived any closer to DC I’d probably go nuts.

My wife works in DC, commutes there from Columbia every day.

I work in Elkridge - which is almost still like the real America I grew up in.

I live in Columbia, MD. It’s rather liberal here, but I work in Elkridge, just 12 miles east.

First thing I noticed when talking with people in Elkridge is that its a much more conservative community than I expected.

Aside from those we'll lose in the normal actuarial course of life on an unsafe planet, I'm sitting here tonight wondering how many of us will be dead by the time the next election rolls around as a direct result of the actions of the new gestapo if this unbelievable piece of filth Hussein manages to steal our White House and begin destroying our Constitution . . .

I've already told my parents that a 0 win will probably mean that I'll end up in jail someday.

I'm a seminarian, and if God so wills it, one day a priest. The sheep need a shepherd to feed them even in tribulation, whether or not there be 'hate crimes' laws to obscure the Truth...

There are not many Obama signs in Texas either. I have to say there are not many signs at all. Yet I don’t know anyone voting for Obama

Elkridge is between Columbia and Baltimore, yes?

I’m Jewish, and there is a pretty solid contingent of conservative Jews in the DC area who I’ve met through RJC (Republican Jewish Coalition). Given Obama’s waffling on a unified Jerusalem, given his close associations with blatant anti-Semites like The Wrong Reverend Wright and others, I have no idea why a single Jew would ever consider casting a ballot for this creep. But, alas...
