Military Ballots Being Rejected in Virginia by Connie Hair

Fairfax County Registrar Rokey Suleman is disqualifying an overwhelming majority of the military federal write-in absentee ballots received in his county on the basis that no address had been given for those witnessing the voter signatures on the ballots. According to Springfield District Supervisor Pat Herrity and four former members of the military who held a press conference on Thursday, over 98 percent of these military absentee ballots in Fairfax County are being rejected.

“The federal write-in absentee ballot is a federally mandated ballot that allows military service members and their dependents to cast an absentee ballot when they haven’t received a [state] ballot before the election,” Herrity said. “For them it’s a safety net. It allows them to vote if the mail truck hasn’t reached his or her remote base in Iran or Afghanistan in time to cast a regular absentee ballot.”

When asked how many ballots had been rejected, Herrity responded, “Out of the 260 military federal write-in ballots received to date, only five included an address for the witness. The other 255 have been set aside for rejection.”

I haven’t heard anything about it. For the Palin rally we basically sent the note to my son’s school and said you ~will~ excuse this.

But, that’s Chesterfield.

-- What they're saying in the statement you have posted is that they're NOT/NOT going to count federal write-in ballots (votes) unless they can match them to a CORRESPONDING application for a VA STATE BALLOT. That is against federal law. --

My take is that VA law requires a witness signature, printed name and printed address when the ballot and request for absentee ballot are combined into a single writing.

And so, what you are saying is that it is against federal law to require a witness signature, name and address when an overseas person presents a write in ballot and absentee ballot application in a single writing.

I haven't dug far enough into the weeds to know, one way or the other. At this point I've just been reproducing links and parts of the documents found at those links.

When RATS hand you a lemon, make lemonade. This is an excellent way to remind military voters that RATS will do anything to disenfranchise them.

Federal law requires that no state law can place more of a burden on any member of the military than anyone else when it comes to facilitation of their votes. Students applying for an absentee ballot in Virginia are not required to have a witness address. Based on that fact alone, these ballots are valid.

Arlington and Norfolk VA counties are counting ALL of the ballots, witness address or not. Fairfax County registrar and Democrat activist Suleman appears to be alone--so far--in requiring the witness address.

I was correct. Just spoke to Suleman. He told me he is not going to count the ballots without a witness address unless they have a corresponding application for a state ballot. He said all of the other counties who are counting them are breaking the law.

Unbelievable conversation...

We have to find the line of Suleman’s connections that brought him form an Ohio Democrat activist and candidate for office to Fairfax, VA. This whole thing smells.

He’s perfectly willing to ditch military ballots but took Elections Board staff to the county jail to get prisoners’ ballots cast.

Gee, we now have Chicago/Cleveland/Cincinnati politics right here in Fairfax County !

“Tough to tell from the instructions.”

the only thing a voter in DC needs is an ACORN nut to buy him a bottle of wine or give him a pack of butts and ka-ching - another vote for Obomber.

This is toooo sick.

The problem is that the Fairfax County government had originally interpreted Virginia law to require all Federal Write-In Absentee ballots to have a witness’ signature, printed name and address on the Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot. However, the underlying Virginia law only requires this witness signature, printed name and address if they are taking advantage of the special Virginia provision that allows the Federal Write-In Absentee Ballot to ALSO serve as the absentee ballot application. Because that’s different from what the federal Voting Assistance Guide says ...

This sounds suspiciously akin to the cops in D.C. and their interpretation of a machine gun to get out of the Supreme Court decision. These cheaters will stop at nothing, even the attempt to pervert and distort plain and simple English. Sheesh.

Yet there are still people here on FR who are posting that "we should beat him (0bama) on the issues." Why doesn't cheating make more people crazy??!!

Listen to me, all of you. Writing polite letters and having earnest conversations and obtaining assurances is very nice and all, but we all know the RATS have no scruples nor compunction about interpeting the law according to their BAMN philosophy, and I’m fed up with all of this crap—I live in Fairfax County and I’m a veteran who says we threaten their physical well-being and disturb their sleep until they relent out of sheer terror for their very hides and property. Let them call the police or whatever, all that will do is increase public awareness of the attempt to disenfranchise our troops. I’m serious, and I don’t give a damn if anyone thinks it’s “probably not a good idea” to fight them by street rules, which means no rules other than they wind up ruing the day they ever even thought about finding some way to throw out those military votes. Let’s roll.

I’ve had it with political correctness, I’ve had it with worrying about sinking to their level, I’ve had it with them and their Cloward-Piven strategy—I say we do some rules for radicals ourselves and bust up their peace of mind with some good old intimidation a la their own playbook.

I am currently out-of-state, to return to Fairfax County NLT Wednesday 10/29. Whether anyone joins me or not I intend to breathe so hard and so loud on these assholes they have nightmares until all our boys’ and girls’ votes are counted. We will know where they live and they will know that WE know exactly how many creamers they take in their coffee and such.

That damned law was written one way, but the ballot itself was printed in an entirely incompatible way with the existing law or whatever. Screw the bureaucRATS with their mild-mannered milquetoast policy statements and requests for formal procedures. Not cutting it. Those military ballots WILL be counted before this is over.

Let me clarify what I mean to say, and amend it to conform to realistic and effective tactics: We have to YELL AT THEM AND CAUSE THEIR BOWELS TO BE DISRUPTED, without actually giving them enough to make harassment and/or any other charges stick—that is, unless push really comes to shove and there is no other way. We have to scrap the formalities and procedural niceties and go right for the close. They count the ballots, or they suffer the unending torment of legitimate wrath on our part. It is a simple and clear case of their choosing to interpret the law the way they want, and so we are on solid ground to insist that they acquiesce or be beseiged.

I wonder if the Attorney General will get involved. He’s a Republican running for governor next year.
