Another Elephant in the Living Room
The New Media Journal ^ | October 23, 2008 | Paul R. Hollrah

In spite of the best efforts of social science teachers over many decades, few Americans understand the purpose or function of the Electoral College.

The Founding Fathers had some very specific reasons for creating the Electoral College. Aside from their insistence that the president and vice president be elected by the states... not by the people and not by the state legislatures... their primary concern was that a foreign power might one day attempt to achieve through corruption and political intrigue, that which they could not achieve on the battlefield.

As Alexander Hamilton wrote in Federalist Paper No. 68, “These most deadly adversaries of republican government (cabal, intrigue, etc.)” might come from many quarters, “but chiefly from the desire in foreign powers to gain an improper ascendant in our councils. How could they better gratify this than by raising a creature of their own to the chief magistracy of the Union?”

The questions about Barack’s citizenship just continue to come. This is something Obama could easily put an end to. Even under a lawsuit, they won’t defend his status as a natural born citizen. That alone speaks volumes about the validity of the accusation.

Hamilton warning about a Manchurian Candidate. Well, we have one. And whether he was born in the US or not, he has nothing but contempt for this nation. And the minions of the left will continue the mis-education of children. Nothing is more dangerous to political thugs than an informed, interested public.

The Founding Fathers had some very specific reasons for creating the Electoral College.

This is why the left wants to destroy the foundations of this country. If we follow the constitution, the left cannot survive.

From the article:

The idea of a foreign power purchasing the allegiance of an American president had never been a major concern – until 1996, that is, when Bill Clinton, Al Gore, and the DNC accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars from agents of the Peoples Republic of China. Those illegal receipts were not disclosed until well after Clinton and Gore were reelected. Would some Democratic electors have withheld their votes, had they known? Perhaps not, but we’ll never know.

I think I can just about guarantee that it would not have made a single bit of difference to democrat electors since the unofficial motto of the rat party is 'the end always justifies the means'.

I don’t believe Barack is a Muslim but I’m sure that he is lying about his Muslim upbringing. Anyone who knows anyone who is Muslim also knows that they take very seriously the religious lives of their children. It would’ve cast the father in a severely negative light in the community if he allowed his son not to practice Islam. That is here nor there though I do believe that America should have clear answer. Do we want a President that has such influence in his background? He then goes on and joins a radical black liberation Church spewing hatred only a slight degree different than that spewed in many mosques. Should it disqualify him that is for the American people to decide but they are not getting to decide. The media is not vetting Barack Obama the way they would a normal white Republican or Democrat candidate. I hope they realize that by not doing this they are setting up a tinderbox which could explode right out the gate on election day.

How could anyone cast a cloudy thought on the Obamessiah. I mean no one could have any influence with him. I mean just because he raised more than a third of his monies from undocumented and/or foreign sources, is no cause for concern because his soul is pure and post partisan.

I only take issue with the suggestion in the post that Social Studies teachers are filling young minds with the reasons for the Electoral College. Maybe that was the case thirty years ago, but now I fear that most of these ‘educators’ are filling the kids’ minds with anti american claptrap and how the institutions created by the founders are antiquated and inappropriate and anti democratic and must be changed.

They regularly publish letters from morons around here (small population state, few electoral votes) who want the EC abolished. These same morons don’t realize that doing so would effectively invalidate their votes for the rest of time.

I remember watching the electoral vote count on Cspan in 2000. Maxine waters stoor right there on the house floor screaming at Al Gore that she didn't care about the rules. Al gore was pounding the gavel attempting to call her to order and she basically had to be led away.

Of course they wouldn't, it is ridiculous to even speculate that they would. These electors are chosen because of their blind devotion to their party, nothing would stand in the way of their partisanship.

The best defense I've found for the Electoral College is explaining that it protects the minority voter, that is, anyone who did not vote for the winning candidate, from pluralistic dictatorship.

Well, being trapped here in Blue State Hell in the benighted Commonwealth of Massachusetts, I have long become used to my votes being invalidated, even with the EC.

For the record, I do NOT support abolishing the EC.

I think that before anyone elected to the highest office in the land tried to take completely over, someone(s) would take steps to see that would not happen.

It think it would be helpful if someone who has taken an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies foreign and domestic were to join the Berg lawsuit, and all other similar suits in other jurisdictions, as a co-plaintiff.

It would be harder to assert lack of standing if a plaintiff has an explicit legal interest in the defense of the Constitution.

I’ll post the suggestion on a PUMA site, too, since ideally in the Berg suit, the plaintiffs should be registered Democrats.

The military is sworn to protect the Constitution for all enemies foreign AND DOMESTIC. The military is the WE THE PEOPLE the legislators and executive branch better fear. It would be them that commit treason, not the military commanders. WE THE PEOPLE have all the guns, planes, ships, etc.
