On todays episode of Ellen, Joe Biden told Ellen DeGeneres that if I lived in California, I would vote against Proposition 8. This initiative reads, Only marriage between a man and a woman is valid or recognized in California. Yet in his debate with Sarah Palin on October 2, Biden said that Barack Obama nor I support redefining from a civil side what constitutes marriage.
Catholic League president Bill Donohue weighed in on this today:
Proposition 8 is a civil initiative that would secure marriage as an institution that is exclusively between a man and a woman, and Joe Biden told Ellen DeGeneres that he is opposed to that measure. In other words, Biden did not tell the truth in his debate with Sarah Palin. He cannot logically be opposed to both gay marriage and Proposition 8, but that is exactly what he is trying to get away with. More important, Biden is openly defying both the pope and the bishops.
Last year, in his Apostolic Exhortation Sacramentum Caritatis, Pope Benedict XVI pointedly said the following about people like Joe Biden: Worship pleasing to God can never be a purely private matter it is especially incumbent upon those who, by virtue of their social or political position, must make decisions regarding fundamental values such as respect for human life, its defence from conception to natural death, the family built upon marriage between a man and a woman....These values are not negotiable. (My emphasis.)
Last year, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops issued Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship wherein it said that the family based on marriage between a man and a woman should be defended and strengthened, not redefined or undermined by permitting same-sex unions or other distortions of marriage.
Biden is in a major jam. He needs to hold a press conference explaining his irreconcilable moral positions, and why he has chosen to defy the pope and the bishops.
I seriously doubt that Biden sends much to the Church at all. Those big government Dems rarely do. Why should they give money to the Church to help poor people, since they expect the govt. to do it all through the programs they set up?
Oh, and he can call himself Catholic all day long, but it doesn't mean he is a FAITHFUL Catholic.
Bypass the MSM.
If not them, EWTN’s Raymond Arroyo. http://www.raymondarroyo.com/
Even the polls say the Catholic vote is going for McCain.
I'd have one of my lackeys contact Rush, Hannity, Greta, et al., with the suggestion that if they invited me on their show, I'd be happy to accept.
If the Church won't excommunicate "Catholics" who openly persecute the Catholic Church, what is excommunication for?
When was the last time we had a high profile, public excommunication?
(We need a few, now. Pour encourager les autres.)
My bias??? And what bias would that be????
That of a lifelong tithing Catholic that just happens to have as a co-parishoner (IN GOOD STANDING) of Claire (the baby killer) McCaskill...
That of a lifelong tithing Catholic that has a parish next to ours that includes as parishoners (IN GOOD STANDING) of the largest organized crime family in the area, who BTW the granddad of which has been to Rome to be "knighted" or whatever they call it due to his large donations.
Yeah, my bias could be mistaken for my disgust and embarrasment at my Church's current position of allowing just ANYONE to publicly claim inclusion in the Church no matter what their true PUBLIC beleifs are.
You were way too flippant with that post, which could have easily been mistaken for that of a cynical anti-Catholic. I might have overreacted with my response, and you raise good points. However, we shouldn’t be surprised that there are weak bishops in the Church (there have been so since the beginning). These kind of things come in waves. This is one way God separates the wheat from the chaff.
“I’d have one of my lackeys contact Rush, Hannity, Greta, et al., with the suggestion that if they invited me on their show, I’d be happy to accept.”
LOL. Nothing ventured. Seriously, I think I’ll call my own to suggest it.
Is the Bishop likely to take action?
Why/Why not?
What does it take to be kicked out of the church in toto?
I suspect I know but I’ll restrain myself.
I’m still praying and working . . . for Mcwhat’sHisName and Palin getting in.
Certainly the GPTB have scheduled what you outlined regardless of who gets in.
Obumma would make it worse and arrive at the speed of light ASAP.
One of our number . . . asserts startlingly that
any Christian voting for Obumma is in danger of hell fire as a consequence.
I’m increasingly convinced he’s likely more right than I might have suspected.
The clueless folks at the college are absolutely uninformed treasonous idiots . . . some calling themselves Christian.
I won't be surprised if Bp. Wuerl has something to say. I'd like to see formal excommunications. I don't expect it. Among other reasons I don't expect it is that I do expect protestant Americans to screech and holler about those wretched papists being beholden to a foreign potentate, if the bishop did excommunicate a few deserving politicians. The legacy of Thomas Nast, along with the eruption of bigotry against Al Smith and JFK is not forgotten.
Wikipedia (yeah, I know) has a list of folks who have been formally excommunicated. No doubt some of your heroes are on that list ... but so are folks like Fidel Castro and the entire membership of the pro-abortion group "Call to Action".
What does it take to be kicked out of the church in toto?
What, exactly, do you mean by that? Even the most hardened, excommunicated sinner is welcome to repent and return to the Church. Does the Good Shepherd say of the one lost sheep "Aw, the heck with it ... I'll just hang out with the 99"? To ask the question is to answer it.
I suspect I know but Ill restrain myself.
Since your demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Church is worse than merely zero, 'restrain[ing] yourself' is a brilliant idea.
Of course I’m in favor of repentance etc.
I have not a hint of an expectation that any of the treasonous politicos can even wrap their egos around the concept.
When I said that no Catholic would vote for Obama, I meant that some who call themselves Catholics do not feel the need to follow the Pope. They don't know that laws of the Magesterium do not allow for personal interpretation. IMHO, in their case, ignorance is an excuse, not a condemnation.
In the ways of the world, nor do I.
But with God, all things are possible.
When I get really annoyed with one of those folks, I offer a prayer for his conversion. Think "Damascus Road" ...
Hmmmm . . .
some I pray similarly for . . . Most I just leave to God’s wisdom.
Joe Biden = Joe “the Dumber”
Sure there is!
His power.
