Monday, October 20, 2008 Email to a Friend Barack Obama has opened his biggest lead yet over John McCain in Virginia. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the state finds Obama now leading 54% to 44%. The Democrat leads 51% to 48% among men and 57% to 42% among women (see full demographic crosstabs).
Just one week ago, Obama held a three percentage point lead but Obama has been dramatically outspending McCain on television advertising in this critical state. The Democrat has now been ahead of McCain in five straight Virginia polls conducted by Rasmussen Reports.
Even before this poll, Obama had an average of 6.8 lead in the RCP average:

If you live anywhere near Virginia, head on over there to help canvass if you can.

Is Obama buying the election with foreign money for carpet ad buys? Sure looks like it to me.
We cannot lose Virginia. Dig in people!!!!!!!!!!
If this is even close to true, McCain is toast.
Obama and his campaign are spreading fraud and dirty money everywhere. It will catch up with him. Hopefully it will be sooner rather than later.
“If this is even close to true, McCain is toast.”
We’ve got two full weeks to make a difference. That is an eternity in politics. But we need to stop worrying about the national polls (good or bad) because that’s not what matters.
WTH is going on in VA bump
This doesn’t seem possible to me.
“If this is even close to true, McCain is toast.”
PA would outweigh VA
NO! These polls are all fake and oversample Democrats! /Sarc
They really need to start polling outside the 703 and 571 area codes.
In 2004 Bush took VA by 8% (54%/46%) and got 59% of men, 50% of women, and 54% of Independents.
Has VA really changed that much?

First obvious question: what do the poll internals say, especially about breakdown by party affiliation? More Republicans than Democrats actually vote in Virginia. This was true even two years ago. Most of the VA polls I’ve seen having Obama ahead put significant more Democrats than Republicans into their samples.
If VA goes Obama, Obama is going to be on track to win. For reasons I do not understand, Mccain tossed in the towel on Michigan and Wisconsin, both ripe for the picking.
Virginia is McCain’s. Don’t worry about this.
McCain has not tossed in the towel on WI. The RNC stopped buying ads in WI, not McCain.
Now there are 2 possibilities in terms of the McCain strategy: either the polls are correct and that’s why McCain is focusing so hard on Pennsylvania or he’s confident in holding Virginia and he’s using Pennsylvania as insurance or a contingency plan.
That’s good to know.
