Toledo, Ohio, officials plan to notify "Joe the Plumber" Worzelbacher that he's out of work, following his televised criticism of Democrat Presidential candidate Barack Obama's tax plan:
A staff person with the Toledo Division of Building Inspection told On Call this afternoon that her division will contact Wurzelbacher to notify him that he can't work without a license.
"We're trying to track him down," she said.
In the meantime, the Democrat-friendly local plumbers' union is fuming.
"He has no license whatsoever with the city of Toledo," said Tom Joseph, the business manager for Local Union 50 of the Plumbers, Steamfitters and Service Mechanics, which has endorsed Obama. "He has no license in the state of Ohio. He has no contractor's license in the state of Ohio. He is not a plumber. He works for a plumber."

He is a looker, and seems like a Man’s Man!
Woohoo! A lost breed. Joe! Joe! Joe!
The purpose of any license is to protect the public from unqualified people doing work for them. This is the reason the owner needs a license - he is dealing with the public. Joe does not deal with the public. He is an employee. Since he is not dealing with the public, he needs no license. Many states have similar licensing schemes.
They are full of it. Here are the requirements to become licensed in Ohio.
This license requires pre-approval from the Ohio Construction Industrys Examining Board. Candidates wishing to obtain a license must go through the qualification process.
To qualify you must:
1) Be at least 18 years of age;
2) Be a US citizen;
3) Have 5 years documentable experience in the classification desired or have been an engineer with 3 years of business experience in the construction industry;
4) Not have been convicted of or pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude or of any felony;
5) Pass the applicable examinations;
6) Pay the applicable fees.
To qualify to sit for the exam applicants must:
1) Complete the exam application;
2) Verify employment dates with start and end month day and year to verify 5 years experience of working in that trade with no breaks in that 5-year history immediately prior to completing the application. Be specific in nature of duties & be sure to attach proof of being in the trade. (Examples would be local licenses held, permits obtained, signed contracts, invoices, or letter of recommendation.
The examination is administered by PROMETRIC.
NOTICE: 03/24/2008 all applications must have a BCI background check to sit for the state exam. Applicants are required to pass the Business and Law Exam in addition to the Plumbing Exam in order to obtain this license.
NOTE: If an individual wants to obtain more than one trade license, they must retake and pass the Business and Law Exam for each trade added to their license.
Once exams have been passed, in addition to the $25.00 license fee, individuals must also send proof of $500,000 minimum contractor liability insurance, listing the actual policy number, to the O.C.I.E.B.
The Plumbing Contractor exam is 100 questions, open book with four (4) hours to complete.
Covered topics: Plumbing fixtures, Materials & Fundamentals, Traps, Cleanouts and Interceptors, Drainage Requirements, Vents, Water Distribution and Plan analysis, etc.... The Business Law exam is required.
Licenses expire each year on the anniversary date.
References:
Only the 2006 International Fuel Gas Code and the 2007 Ohio Plumbing Code are allowed into the examination.
The Mathematics for Plumbers & Pipefitters and the Modern Plumbing books are used in the class tot prepare for the exam. Students should be familiar with the information contained in both of the references NOT allowed into the examination.
Seminar Price: $290.00
So in order to GET a license one must work 5 years WITHOUT that license to qualify to take the test FOR the license.
Hey, maybe we can bring The Messiah’s brother who lives on $10/yr over from Kenya and give him a nice job as Joe the Plumber’s assistant. I bet people all over the country would hire them.
Plungers in the yard and TVs in the trash! Wouldn’t it be cool? A picture of a street full of houses with their TVs in the trash can (as an F.U. to the MSM).
LOL!! WOOHOO!
This is not about Joe needing a license, it’s about union thuggery. Much like we will all see out of ‘law enforcement’ if Obama and his Marxist buddies get control of the White House.
Obama’s rise on our political landscape is the political Pygmalion of our time. We see Joe being destroyed, not for what HE SAID, but for what he got Obama to admit. Yet Ayers, Rezko, Rev. Wright, Farakahn and Odinga go unmentioned in the discussion? Well there it is folks...they are not even hiding it anymore.
Do any of you think you will be “alright” if Obama gets into the White House? Do you think you will be able to get to the truth about anything once they scrub the internet of places like FreeRepublic and Drudge? Once they go after the few real newspapers or organizations? Once they, the new government, owns everything???
McCain/Palin has to be the winning ticket. If not, we are headed toward hell on a fast track.
I have to say that I agree.
I recall the dems taking a huge dive in the polls when they started trashing Palin. They began backing off when they realized what effect it was having on them. Now, they are doing it again. This time with "Joe the Plumber". This is good. Just two weeks before the election.
I hope Worzelbacher is capitalizing on his new fame and making obscene amounts of profit from it..
“I know these licensing systems arent perfect, but theyre there to protect citizens, to keep them from paying top dollar for shoddy work from someone that may or may not know what theyre doing, and theyre there to level the playing field for people in the profession.”
In other words, the citizenry is not capable of protecting themselves and needs dear old master government to step into their contractual agreements. In addition, the service provider is not capable of competing on merit, so they need dear old master government to ensure that performance is not the basis for their reputation.
Nice little socialist trying to infiltrate FR.
IBTZ?
“No kidding, her staff wants to fly him to washington give him a place to say and she has a few months work for him.”
What could should she be doing that could occupy a plumber full time for months?
“My father is a licensed contractor; paid for and took the classes, paid for and took the test, carries all the required insurance, its quite a process. He put in the hard work and money to go through this process. Someone that doesnt reflects poorly on the whole profession.”
And you expect us to believe your father doesn’t hire unlicensed labor? Baloney. I’ll wager that he even has illegals working for him either directly or through subcontractors.
Toledo Official???
Dead give away.
This is a made up story.
Thanks. I designed it last night and decided to put it on stuff in my cafepress store.....LOL
My plumber doesn't have a license, although he works for a plumber who does. They have about 4 plumbers, all very competent.
If you hire a plumber, licensed or unlicensed, word of mouth and references is your best bet to insure quality.
Obama’s ‘Thugocracy’ in action.
