Oppose Obama and Lose Your Job? Joe the Plumber Gets Threatened By Toledo Officials
Federal Review ^ | 10/16/08

Toledo, Ohio, officials plan to notify "Joe the Plumber" Worzelbacher that he's out of work, following his televised criticism of Democrat Presidential candidate Barack Obama's tax plan:

A staff person with the Toledo Division of Building Inspection told On Call this afternoon that her division will contact Wurzelbacher to notify him that he can't work without a license.

"We're trying to track him down," she said.

In the meantime, the Democrat-friendly local plumbers' union is fuming.

"He has no license whatsoever with the city of Toledo," said Tom Joseph, the business manager for Local Union 50 of the Plumbers, Steamfitters and Service Mechanics, which has endorsed Obama. "He has no license in the state of Ohio. He has no contractor's license in the state of Ohio. He is not a plumber. He works for a plumber."

It’s very vague. What ends up happening is contractors work under a licensed plumber. However, what this generally means is you (or the contractor) has to pay a kickback to the licensed plumber for him to pull a permit. And I think there is a legal battle waiting to happen because in my case, I am on a septic system and not tied to the city sewer.

What state is this in where a (plumbing)contractor is not licensed, but has to work under an individual with a plumbing license. That doesn’t make any sense and usually anyone can draw a permit, in fact I often tell my customers to draw their own permit, and then I use my plumbing contractor’s license to do the work and have it signed off by the inspector.

My plumbers under me would work under my plumbing contractors license, they do not need individual licenses in California, in fact one isn’t even available.

“A PROPER method would be to require plumbers to be bonded and have third party arbitration agreements setup in case of dispute. Then the market decides who is the best plumber.”

That is already done, yes bonded and arbitration, and of course the market.

Licensing is done to make sure that the license holder has enough knowledge not to kill people and/or cause extensive damage, which is not too hard to do in plumbing and heating.

It also means that the license holder knows enough about business law to at least try to succeed in handling complicated contract law with homeowners, builders, government entities, etc.

The first line of defense for a homeowner or a building contractor is to verify that the contracting business that just showed up, has at least been vetted to the degree of having a basic license.

I am in the trades and I have seen the usefulness of licensing many, many times and have changed some of my more naive views that I might have once held on the subject.

I live in NY state, but the problem is the law is a city law. I don’t understand the legality of it myself. In my city, you “allegedly” need a licensed plumber to pull the permit and do the work. However, you can do your own electrical work. In the city next to us, the reverse is true. I don’t get it.

I agree on you wanting to make sure qualified folks are doing a good job. And that if they need to be licensed they should be licensed. I understand that Joe the Plumber works under a licensed plumber which is suitable in his state (as near as I can figure). ANYWAY - what I DID want to disagree with you about is that I think that Alinsky is relevant. I hadn't heard of him either until the Ayers/Obama thing came up and read more about him. Lots of the things he wrote about you can see in Obama and his campaign.

Alinsky literally wrote the book on “community activism”. (Hey - I just thought up a new tagline - “Obama, putting the Communism in Community Activism” or perhaps - Community Activism - a longer way to say Communism).

Okay - back to Alinsky, here's something I found pertinent to this plumber thing. And its not just Obama, its the media too (no license, back taxes, unpaid tickets in Arizonia or something, etc.):
******

Among the most vital tenets of Alinsky’s method were the following:

“Make the enemy live up to their own book of rules. You can kill them with this, for they can no more live up to their own rules than the Christian Church can live up to Christianity.”

“No organization, including organized religion, can live up to the letter of its own book. You can club them to death with their ‘book’ of rules and regulations.”

“Practically all people live in a world of contradictions. They espouse a morality which they do not practice.… This dilemma can and should be fully utilized by the organizer in getting individuals and groups involved in a People's Organization. It is a very definite Achilles’ heel even in the most materialistic person. Caught in the trap of his own contradictions, that person will find it difficult to show satisfactory cause to both the organizer and himself as to why he should not join and participate in the organization. He will be driven either to participation or else to a public and private admission of his own lack of faith in democracy and man.”

Alinsky taught that in order to most effectively cast themselves as defenders of moral principals and human decency, organizers must react with “shock, horror, and moral outrage” whenever their targeted enemy in any way misspeaks or fails to live up to his “book of rules.”

Moreover, said Alinsky, whenever possible the organizer must deride his enemy and dismiss him as someone unworthy of being taken seriously because he is either intellectually deficient or morally bankrupt. “The enemy properly goaded and guided in his reaction will be your major strength,” said Alinsky.

* * * * * *

With regards to derision, that video of Obama chuckling and saying about McCain “...and he is fighting for a PLUMBER!?” (snicker).

You got that right...

“Joe the Plumber” dared speak out against the Fuhrer, oops Obama, and the new Brownshirts , the MSM, have picked him clean.

I worry if Obamna is elected, the new brownshirts will be more and more like the NAZI brownshirts of the 30s and usher in an era of totalitarian government.

This is a problem.

Here's a thought, glue about 4 tire gauges to the handle of your plunger, then we would be making two statements about the stupidity of the anointed one and his brown shirt tactics against those who question his holiness.

His BS reminds me more of the Spanish inquisition than Hitler though.

The address at 30 Derbyshire Rd. is bona fide. I found it on the Anywho.com engine run by AT&T. The landline there is in Kimberly's name. That is his ex I presume.

The radio station link is supposedly going to give anything over $1700.00 to local charity. WHAT local charity?

No thanks.

Shoot, I've already seen one FReeper that is sending him $500.00 and plenty others that have already mailed him!

I'm going to leave it in the box unless I see something else between now and 9 a.m.
