Why This Election Will Be Close: Hushed Confessions
Fox News ^ | October 16, 2008 | Fr. Jonathan Morris

Posted on 10/17/2008 1:34:18 AM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

In recent weeks I have spent a good amount of time crisscrossing the country.

Something very unusual is taking place.

From Seattle to San Diego, from Burlington, Vermont to New York City, from New Orleans to Texas and Midwest towns like Cleveland, I am hearing hushed admissions of a terrible sin: “Father, I’m not going to vote for Obama.”

Then I look at the polls. Nationally and in battleground States, Senator Obama is thrashing Senator McCain.

So what gives?

Pollsters would tell me it’s all very simple. Anecdotal evidence, like my experience on the road, isn’t really evidence at all. It is not trustworthy because it is not scientific. The divergence between what people are telling me and the polling data must be that I run in closed circles. People of like minds talk to me; the others don’t.

Very logical…unless…unless people don’t want their neighbors (or pollsters) to know they aren’t voting for Obama.

So, are we talking here about the “Bradley Effect”, that well-documented racist phenomenon of people telling pollsters one thing and then doing the opposite in the voting booth simply because the candidate is black?

No. I am referring to something else — the fear of talking to pollsters, or to your neighbor, or to anyone else about not wanting to vote for Barack Obama because of what he stands for.

Do you have doubts? How would you like to get up in front of a crowded theater in a mixed neighborhood and say you are going to vote for McCain? What respectable person wants to risk being considered a racist or a war monger or a fan of President Bush or an enemy of change?

We need purple fingers and photo IDs! Let’s do it right! Make it real! Write or call your local officials! If not for this election then future ones!

Yes, I do believe ID’s...atleast...need to be protocol throughout the country. I could easily vote for other people in my state (CA), because there’s not ID requirements. And they just believe I’m the person on the ballot. That sort of blind faith is stupid.

Plus the whole idea felony inmates in Washington will get a ballot....just silly.

Democrats want to eliminate that secret ballot, like my Commie representative Gabrielle Giffords. She introduced the bill, to pay off her union backers.

The more far-reaching vote, however, would eliminate workers’ rights to hold secret ballot elections to unionize their shops. After spending hundreds of millions of dollars to elect Democratic candidates, union lobbyists pushed hard for this bill -- known as the “Employee Free Choice Act” -- which would allow union lobbyists to take over workplaces through a system known as “card-check.” Under that system, a union need only convince (or as opponents would say, coerce) 51 % of affected employees to sign a card in favor of union representation, in order to represent and collect dues from the employees.

Get that: The "Employee Free Choice Act". Exactly the opposite of what it says it is. The Leftist Way.

Too bad the brain-deads around here will most likely reelect her. After all, she looks good in tight blue jeans, and runs lots of campaign ads.

I've been telling my wife the same thing. If the polls are within 4-5 points, McCain will win. I just can't accept my countrymen would be stupid enough to put Obama in office because they are tired of Bush. It makes no sense to destroy your country to throw a hissy fit.

If too many dead people and wino's vote, I could be wrong, but I just won't believe it till I see it. The biggest variable might be college students. I was banking on Hillary rejects to make the difference, but the shine seems to be off Palin right now. I would rather have her than McCain, but I would rather have about 9 others before McCain.

I might remind you that Obama was ahead in most primaries and then Hillary mysteriously "pulled it out" at the last minute. Maybe we'll have snow on Nov 4th and all the dopeheads will sleep in as usual. I've also heard all Republicans are supposed to vote on Tuesday and all Dems will vote on Wed. Be sure and pass that tidbit along. How embarrassing for a Dem to show up on Tuesday with the Republicans.

It's going to be very "interesting..."

I know several democrats...of the older kind...that will not be voting democrat. They’ve voted dem their whole life. Reasons stem from their fear of Obama being muslim, to his perception of being ‘just a mouth’, and even some racist democrats among the much older part of that equation.

Generally speaking, I have a feeling it will be close if there’s no Oct suprise.

This financial crisis was wrongly pinned on the Republican. I’m not on the whole bandwagon here on the reasoning, but nevertheless I don’t think we should hand this country over to ‘Senator Government’ for that reason. I think he’s clueless.

That's exactly what I thought in 1992.

I suspect that many people who aren't going to vote for Obama don't think he has the capability to do the job, but if they SAY that they fear people will say "Oh, you don't think a black man..."

It's the exact opposite of racism. These people so hate racism, and fear being labelled a racist, that they don't speak the truth. That sucks.

For all and sundry who may pass through this forum, perhaps even the hundreds of thousands:

I AM NOT GOING TO VOTE FOR OBAMA!

And I neither ask or need "forgiveness" for it.

Indeed, I could never forgive myself if I knew I'd had any part in the destruction of America.

BINGO!

Admitting your support for Mccain could put you in danger.
Rush talked about a McCain supporter who was assaulted with dog dung. But Joe the plumber is being villified for asking the messiah a question!

Criticise a black or any “protected” minority and your in trouble. People have had careers destroyed because they did not follow the PC rule of speech.

"... but the shine seems to be off Palin right now."

Sure, after all the lamestream media says so, so it must be true. Never mind those campaign stops where she drew 25-30,000 TWICE in the same day in, I think VA. last week.

RE: “People have had careers destroyed because they did not follow the PC rule of speech.”

*************

Yes, I am one of those people — but it wasn’t a person or group I openly criticized, it was the company’s new and highly inferior mandatory health insurance plan they foisted off on all employees. I was fired, but was given a generous settlement and granted unemployment benefits — unusual for someone who is fired for “insubordination.” I went against “the plan” and was vocal about it. That’s all it took!

Oh, the Bradley effect, racism, bla bla bla.

The fact is, the MSM and the DNC are planning to win this election by voter fraud. That’s just the fact, as it was in 2000.

But now Ohio’s been caught with their hand in the cookie jar, as well as Indiana. Who knows which acorns will sprout over the next couple of weeks?
