NEW YORK John McCain hung his final presidential debate performance on an Ohio plumber who campaign aides never vetted.
A day after making Joseph Wurzelbacher famous, referencing him in the debate almost two dozen times as someone who would pay higher taxes under Barack Obama, McCain learned the fine print Thursday on the plumbers not-so-tidy personal story: He owes back taxes. He is not a licensed plumber. And it turns out that Wurzelbacher makes less than $250,000 a year, which means he would receive a tax cut if Obama were elected president.
McCain likes to say that he isnt George W. Bush and in this case of bungled public relations, it is clear he is not. The famously-disciplined Bush campaign operation would likely have found the perfect anonymous citizen to illustrate a policy proposal, rather than spontaneously wrap itself around an unknown entity with so many asterisks.

Uhm...Earth to liberals...The man said right up front that he was looking to buy a buisness that would make more than 250K, not that he already was...
Get your facts straight before getting snarky...
Joe the Plumber did not say to Obama that he made $250,000.
Joe the Plumber said that he HOPED , some day, to own a plumbing business that made him $250,000.
Obama's reply was that such a business owner's earnings would be taken to "spread the wealth".
It does not matter what Joe the Plumber's "personal story" is. He could be a hypothetical person and his hypothetical question would still be valid.
It speaks volumes that the liberal media desperately attacks Joe the Plumber in order to divert attention from Obama's answer to Joe the Plumber's question.
Did you see the guy to the camera mans left he had his arms folded and he mouthed some words but I think he called Obama an A Hole.
That's exactly what Joe was talking about. These reporters really, really lack comprehension skills. Just when you think they can't look more stupid...Dumb asses.
Something tells me Brown and Parnes don’t quite get it, Joe is a stand-in for millions of people like him. Trying to fling mud at someone who’s not running for anything only makes you look desperate and petty - although seeing Obamanites in that frame of mind is refreshing.
but I thought obama is a christian? after all, he attended the same hate-filled racist church for 20 years
Purely Politico pablum.
Idiot journalists can’t see the forest for the trees. They are stuck on the minutiae of Joe rather than seeing the big picture. They are looking for ANYTHING to undermine the man and are grasping at the weakest of straws. Joe is the perfect metaphor for EVERYMAN who is under the thumb of big government and trying to throw off that shackle — and the ball and chain that O wants to tie us all down with.
These stupid a holes don’t get it. This guy wanted to buy his bosses business and he a=was wondering if Obama would raise his taxes after he bought the business! He was setting Obama up but it worked!
Exactly!
The media is doing this to draw attention TO Joe and AWAY from what Obama said about spreading the wealth around; this is typical rat behavior.... we all need to keep the eye on the real ball here and it is Obama’s comment.
John McCain had Sarah Palin sneak into Karl Rove’s office and tap into his computerized mind reading machine to see what street Obama was going to visit. McCain would have done it himself, but we all know he doesn't know how to use a computer.
Anyway, once Sarah got the info, she made a note and hid it inside Trig’s diaper so her Secret Service Detail wouldn't catch on. When John McCain got the note out of Trig’s diaper, he ordered his trusted Butler Alfred to find a mid forties white guy living on that very same street. Alfred went to Joe's house, and using his skills as an amateur Hypnotist, put Joe in a trance and told him what questions to ask Obama. The rest as they say, is history.
Nuff said.
Ben Smith and Jonathan Martin, the official Obama Suckup Team...
Watch his performance at the Al Smith memorial event in New York. He has a hard time with words.
Let the backlash begin. Joe did nothing wrong and is in fact not running for public office, yet they “vetted” this guy more than they ever did Obama. Americans are going to be outraged at how this guy is treated.
So he really is an average american who’s made a few mistakes.
Go Joe!
bravo!
What will we hear from the media about charlie?
