CNN) John McCain who has often praised civil rights icon John Lewis called a statement by the Georgia congressman Saturday comparing the outbursts at recent Republican rallies to the rhetoric of segregationist George Wallace a brazen and baseless attack that is shocking and beyond the pale.
Lewis issued his statement after several days of headline-grabbing anger directed at Democratic nominee Barack Obama by some attendees at McCain campaign rallies.

“the rhetoric of segregationist George Wallace Â
I guess Mr Lewis forgot to mention that he should have said, “ the rhetoric of segregationist DEMOCRAT Gov. George Wallace of Alabama....”
I’ll bet McCain forgets to bring it up too, least we offend dems.
Beyond the pale, yes. Shocking, no.
Wake up, John -- these aren't your friends. ...athough if you lose the election, they'll go back to pretending to be your friends in short order.
" every colored man who has a vote to cast, would cast that vote for the regular Republican Party and thus bury the Democratic Party so deep that there will not be seen even a bubble coming from the spot where the burial took place."
The Democratic party is still the party of manufactured and exploited conflict. The Republican party from the beginning has been the political party of free opportunity for all.
Yep....and I feel the same way about food banks and such, too....knowing what I do about how they are abused.
Comments like Rep. Lewis's are previews of what is to come if the Liberal Messiah is given title to the United States (you think is only running to be President?) This will be His country and he mold it in His image. All those who express "hateful" (i.e., dissenting) views will be "re-educated".
Speaking the truth about Obama’s views, votes and associations does not equal racism. I’m against Obama — because he is a flaming LIBERAL, not because he’s black. I voted for a black for President years ago and would have no problem at all voting for a conservative black. Voting against a liberal is not racist. Accusing me and other supporters of McCain/Palin of racism is.
Thank you so much... I have never heard that quote before. It is a good one.
Perhaps Scrooge dealt with a similar sort which led him to finally conclude the congenital whining class should just "die and thereby reduce the surplus population(s)" of them.
Scrooge had a point.
The Leftists are attacking from every angle and are relentless. I have never in my life seen such a well-organized siege surrounding every aspect of the McCain/Palin campaign. Even vote fraud is organized and ongoing.
Pray, peeples, pray. Then work, work, work like you are possessed. The evil miasma of the Left is penetrating everywhere. Email, email, phone, phone, fax, fax, write, write......you'll know to whom and where.....the force will be with you to guide you.
This election is going to be a beeeitch.

I think he still thinks they love him. He also doesn’t understand how the media can turn their backs on him...
Even if they do, it's usually along the lines of "I'm sorry if anyone was OFFENDED by my comments." That DNC fellow comes to mind - the one who made those comments on the plane regarding Hurricane Gustav and the R- convention.
Accusations of Racism-the last refuge of a liberal..
It sometimes seems like McCain would rather be loved by his “friends” in the MSM and on the other side of the aisle than become POTUS.
I’m surprised ayone could understand a word John Lewis said. Of all the folks to yell “RACIST”, he is a dyed-in-the-wool black activist that has denigrated “whities” all of his political career, and in my book is a disgrace to his race by doing so. To hell with John Lewis and his ilk! Lewis’es racial slurs need to be nipped in the bud, and need to stop now.
“Even vote fraud is organized and ongoing.”
And seemingly stamped with a seal of approval in Ohio.
Wow, the comments after this article on the site are stunning. The Libs are all fired up because they think McCain has been so mean to Obama.
Excellent post.
You want to see racism? Wait until the Republicans nominate an African-American conservative. That will make the Sarah Palin attacks look like a bed of roses!
“the Chosen One”??????
DON’t you mean the “Messiah”....Didn’t you see the video on Fox last night?!?
