There were threads mentioning the Mother's Cookie Company going under. This is also part of that, unfortunately.

My grandmother had this old, earthenware light green cookie jar which she kept either Archway oatmeal cookies or Archway fruit-centered cookies in. It was the first thing we'd rush to at night after we pulled into her driveway from our long trip.

My wife and I just went out and picked up a few packages of these. It may be the last time we will have them.

Archway Cookies are awesome! Lemon cookies, soft chocolate cookies, ginger... I hope the company can pull out of Chapter 11.

Crap! I really like Archway cookies. Oh well, I suppose my stomach girth will be the better without them.

I was in Chelsea Michigan yesterday and was surprised at how large the Jiffy Mix plant there has grown.

Great. Now I’m stuck with melamine-laced foreign cookies from China! What exactly do we still make here in the good ol’ USA?

I’ll look for some tomorrow. I loved their soft Molasses cookies & at Christmas, they made special, decorated cookies. Gosh, I’m going to miss those.

Sorry, but Archway cookies are crap. Just like most of the stuff on the shelves from the major brands. The cookies baked on site are always much better.

assets in excess of $50 million and liabilities of more than $500 million.

Good grief, was there no adult in charge?

The maker of Archway and Salerno cookies said the company,
crumbling under rising prices for raw ingredients, has halted operations
and filed for bankruptcy.

Thank G-d my father went peacefully to his reward in January.
Hearing that Archway went under and he couldn't keep getting
their Ginger Snaps...that would have killed him!

Now I'm going to run off to the store and get at least a couple
of the remaining packs for my brother.
And try to get him a prescription for anti-depressants when he
finishes off those Ginger Snaps.
You know, those addiction things often run in families!!!
(I'm being facetious...a little bit!)

One of my best friends is the grand daughter of “Mother” of Mothers Cookies. The story goes that “Mother” would bake the cookies and her husband would take them around on the horse and flatbed for sales and delivery. Through the wars it grew to a respectable confectionery company . When my friend's father took over the business, he modernized it and expanded the business east of the Rockies and finally sold it in the 80’s.

Our families were the ones who built up the bay area. Now it's a wreck. Sad times....
