A New York Times blogger discovers the news is not good for John McCain in Colorado Springs, where a lifelong Republican on the city council says she is abandoning her partys nominee to vote for Barack Obama this year. Further endangering McCains prospects in Colorados largest Republican stronghold, the pastor who replaced former GOP heavyweight Ted Haggard leading one of the citys largest mega-churches is staying on the sidelines, urging his flock to vote for any political party.
Seattle-based Timothy Egan visited Colorado Springs, dubbed the Vatican of evangelical political power, after the second presidential debate and comes to one conclusion: My friends: its not good for Senator McCain.

roflmao!
McCain needs this kind of attack:
“Where are Obama’s college transcripts and writings, that we might evaluate his formative years?”
“Where are Obamas’s executive qualifications, given that he gained office unopposed, and has initiated no meaningful legislation?”
“Should we place more confidence in his liberal voting record of raising taxes and undermining national defense, or should we believe his pandering campaign rhetoric?”
“Not a record to be trusted in these challenging times!”
Well, I voted for Palin. She brings some baggage with her but I will tolerate it for now.
are there conservatives in the springs?
yes. they named the freeway coming into town from poo-A-blow,
the ronald reagan freeway.
We hear them all the time on talk radio. They’re called seminar callers.
I suspect that Egan is saying that publicly but someone else is working privately and quietly.
As for the councilwoman...whatever....
*She is a 58 year old single woman who describes herself as open-minded and progressive. She says she is moderate to liberal*
Does she sound like someone who would be a conservative? I doubt McCain could appeal to her and Palin never would. It is good that she has found her own. If she attends gay parties she would like be more in tune with Democrats and that is not to knock Log Cabin Republicans, but she is likely not conservative.
I have never before seen so much furious paddling beneath the water by the left to try to create an atmosphere of defeat for Republicans, in the hope that we’ll be stupid enough to believe them and give up. That’s all this is, all any of it is. No, I don’t think McCain has this won, and I don’t think he’s lost it. I think it’s too close to call. They are doing things like this, the ACORN fraud, to gain whatever edge they can. I believe it’s going to be a small margin of victory for whichever candidate wins, and the left is not above any means of securing that margin, no matter how unethical or even illegal (as long as they can get away with it). They probably are also scared of the “Bradley effect”, and trying to overcome that also. It probably makes them particularly angry and frustrated because it can’t be accurately measured.
You forgot to tell us that one of the Independent’s reporters, Cara DeGette, is the sister of the only “human” able to replace Patricia Schroeder; Diana DeGette.
I’m a former CS resident....now in gangland California.
People who are exactly that keep telling me that: Lifelong Democrats either:
1) voting McCain
2) not voting Obama
one of my best friends lives in CS and believe me, she’s voting for McC.....
I’m getting lots of people telling me they are voting third party. Liberals are telling me they will vote for Nader. Is he even running?
that’s ok - just found out a friend of mine in Colorado - a nonpolitical who only votes in presidential elections and is usually undecided up until 2-3 days before each election, is voting McCain...
So, that’s one undecided that is now in the McCain camp!! (she saw the Socialist article today and the Kenya video and she’s now 100% in McCain’s camp)
I’m in CS - I only see McCain/Palin signs in my neighborhood. All my co-workers are voting Republican.
gee, I’m really surprised.
Good riddance.
Colorado Springs will go REpublican.. That is one of the largest areas of Conservative Christian in the country. Home of Focus on The Family!
The DeGette sisters -— yeah that too. LOL
Bless FR.
The Obama/NYT campaign didn’t send a reporter all the way to Colorado to write about GOOD news for McCain...
What data do you have to support this assertion? I doubt it "is happening all across the country" but I'd believe facts and figures if you have them. If not, forget it.
