Bad news for McCain in Colorado Springs, Times blogger finds

A New York Times blogger discovers the news is not good for John McCain in Colorado Springs, where a lifelong Republican on the city council says she is abandoning her party’s nominee to vote for Barack Obama this year. Further endangering McCain’s prospects in Colorado’s largest Republican stronghold, the pastor who replaced former GOP heavyweight Ted Haggard leading one of the city’s largest mega-churches is staying on the sidelines, urging his flock to vote “for any political party.”

Seattle-based Timothy Egan visited Colorado Springs, dubbed “the Vatican of evangelical political power,” after the second presidential debate and comes to one conclusion: “My friends: it’s not good for Senator McCain.”

I looked up Jan Martin and found her involved with the local chapter of the ACLU and attending a party held by the Gay and Lesbian fund and is a member of the Citizens Project. Pretty much a RINO

Citizens Project works to defend public education against religious incursions such as teaching creationism, and against efforts at privatization such as vouchers.

________________

Gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and questioning people continue to face unfair discrimination in housing, employment and public accommodation. Citizens Project believes the principle that “all men are created equal” as stated in the U.S. Constitution will never be faithfully upheld while it remains legal to discriminate against people because of who they are. Objections to GLBT civil rights come from religious doctrine, and our nation is founded on laws and principles, not on any particular religious faith.

As a citizen of Colorado Springs, let me say that the chances of this having ANY impact on the election is close to zero.

oh boy, a councilman from small Mid-Western state has decided to vote for Obama. I guess that’s it. May as well throw in the towel and give up.

I’ve found lots of “life long conservatives” who are abandoning McCain’s “tax raising”, “big government” policies in favor of Obama’s “tax cutting”, “smaller government” approach.

Somehow I don’t believe them....

I looked into Jan Martin. She is NOT a Republican. She is a 58 year old single woman who describes herself as open-minded and progressive. She says she is ‘moderate to liberal’. Did she run as a Republican??

Yeah right. Oh did I ever tell you that I’m a long time Democrat, but I’m thinking of voting republican because I don’t trust Obama?

As a citizen of Colorado Springs let me concur with your well stated opinion. This storyline is pure malarkey!

El Paso County is home to Colorado Springs and will overwhelmingly go for McCain-Palin. In the 65% range.

Just for the record, the Independent newspaper is a liberal rag given away for free and best used as bird cage liner.

The Independent is the far to the left rag in Colorado Springs. They are dreaming.

Maybe it has no direct impact, but it is indicative of what is happening all across the country.

McCain has not been able to frame, in clear and simple terms, how conservative ideals (particularly on economics and foreign policy) stave off the types of problems we are seeing and how ideals such as those espoused by Obama led to our present difficulties at home and abroad. Palin can do it, but she has not had enough time to learn the verbal ropes. She is clear, but she does not speak with the authority of a Reagan or a Goldwater.

I, myself, believe that they ought to put Palin as the lead figure in commercials and turn it into a Palin vs. Obama battle. We would still put the man with experience in office and who would save our independence and our constitution.

But lacking this type of clarity, RINOs are going to be free to forsake their conservative constituents.

“A New York Times blogger discovers...”

Well...that says it all. This story is bunk, nothing more that a weak attempt at a scare tactic. Colorado Springs will hold up its end of the conservative vote.

And, you can take that to the bank.
