74% of CEOs Believe Obama Would Be Disastrous for the Nation
NewsBusters ^ | 10-9-08 | Noel Sheppard

If a recent poll found that almost 75 percent of America's top business leaders felt that a McCain presidency would be disastrous for the nation, with some even stating that his proposals if enacted would bankrupt the country in three years, do you think media would have reported it?

Probably every hour on the hour until every American had heard about it, right?

Well, on Wednesday, with the nation in the middle of what is being regularly portrayed as the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression, Chief Executive magazine released its survey of 751 CEOs finding that 74 percent fear "an Obama presidency would be disastrous for the country."

Some CEO's went so far as claiming "[Obama's] programs would bankrupt the country within three years, if implemented"

Chief Executive magazine’s most recent polling of 751 CEOs shows that GOP presidential candidate John McCain is the preferred choice for CEOs. According to the poll, which is featured on the cover of Chief Executive’s most recent issue, by a four-to-one margin, CEOs support Senator John McCain over Senator Barack Obama. Moreover, 74 percent of the executives say they fear that an Obama presidency would be disastrous for the country.

“The stakes for this presidential election are higher than they’ve ever been in recent memory,” said Edward M. Kopko, CEO and Publisher of Chief Executive magazine. “We’ve been experiencing consecutive job losses for nine months now. There’s no doubt that reviving the job market will be a top priority for the incoming president. And job creating CEOs repeatedly tell us that McCain’s policies are far more conducive to a more positive employment environment than Obama’s.”

“I’m not terribly excited about McCain being president, but I’m sure that Obama, if elected, will have a negative impact on business and the economy,” said one CEO voicing his lack of enthusiasm for either candidate, but particularly Obama.

In expressing their rejection of Senator Obama, some CEOs who responded to the survey went as far as to say that “some of his programs would bankrupt the country within three years, if implemented.” In fact, the poll highlights that Obama’s tax policies, which scored the lowest grade in the poll, are particularly unpopular among CEOs.

Despite the poll's findings, from what I can tell, even though this study was disseminated by PRNewswire, it has garnered very little mainstream media attention.

Think that would be the case if these business leaders were so negative about McCain's economic policies?

No, I don't either!

Read it again. It proposes a hypothetical and asks if the media would report it if it were McCain.

Myself, I believe that 74% of CEO’s are disastrous for the nation.

Don't confuse the vast majority of CEOs with the small minority that run companies that do not build things, create things, make things, or service things.

Don't confuse the vast majority of CEOs with the small minority that run companies that makes money of manipulating markets and gaming the system.

Don't confuse the vast majority of CEOs with the small minority that run Wall Street companies, support Obama and Dems financially by more than a 2 to 1 margin. These are the CEOs who worked with Washington to create the financial crisis. Check the campaign donations by employees of the big Wall Street firms at Huffington Post and you'll find they are overwhelmingly Democrat. After all, it's easier to buy a congressman than compete in the market. It's cheaper to buy senators than to buy market share.

I’d be more impressed with a survey of small business owners.

Another thread today shows 4-1 support for McCain amongst "job creators".

The rejection of free enterprise and capitalism by some on this site is kind of shocking. CEO can be up to no good, but a vast majority are not overpaid and do keep their stock holders, employees and customers best interests in mind.
It would be interesting to survey the top 2000 public companies officers against the contribution list and see where they send their contributions, but most of the financial companies that have gone down were known as Rats.

“I think we’ve seen that a great many CEOs either don’t know what is best for their corporations or they don’t care because they have their golden parachutes strapped on. As a group, CEOs don’t have any credibility with me.”

But they are only saying that because they know that The One is coming for them!

He’ll steal from them so that the “middle class” can take that money from these evil, greedy people that create all the jobs in this country. /s

They get appointed as CEO because the board of directors thinks they have the experience and knowledge to guide the ship of the corporation. IE, they know what they’re talking about, or they wouldn’t be there.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!! They get appointed because it's "You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours".

Wow... First we need to examine the prime directive of major corporate CEO's, There is plenty of good and current information which has been made available over the last few years.

Tax Policy Center:

Obama’s tax plans would cost the U.S federal government nearly $900 billion in his first term, and increase the national debt by $3.3 trillion over ten years.

The only bright spot here is that there isn't the money left to run a socialist country on for very long. Hopefully it will be short.

Best case scenario, we are taken over from within, perhaps by a military coup and manage to survive and rebuild over the course of many years.

Worst case, our Islamo-fascist enemies see how vulnerable we are, attack en masse, and wipe us completely off the map.

Under any scenario, it is tough to imagine our Democracy surviving for much longer once we institute the Socialist government Obama is promising.

26% believe placating the envious complaining masses will allow them to keep their wealth. It’s appeasement. It’s why Soros wants to see all the poor hoi polloi stoned on pot.

That is the money quote for me in terms of why we can still have hope on election day regardless of the polls. There very well could be a large number of people, some may call it a "silent majority", who may not be enthused enough about McCain himself to answer a stupid poll when called, but will have no problem at all voting on election day and making sure that Obama does not totally hose the country.

No, they’ll just give more money to their corporation’s charitable funds, money which will in turn be funneled to groups like ACORN to get out the um “votes” for Obama. Idiots.
