74% of CEOs Believe Obama Would Be Disastrous for the Nation

If a recent poll found that almost 75 percent of America's top business leaders felt that a McCain presidency would be disastrous for the nation, with some even stating that his proposals if enacted would bankrupt the country in three years, do you think media would have reported it?

Probably every hour on the hour until every American had heard about it, right?

Well, on Wednesday, with the nation in the middle of what is being regularly portrayed as the worst financial crisis since the Great Depression, Chief Executive magazine released its survey of 751 CEOs finding that 74 percent fear "an Obama presidency would be disastrous for the country."

Some CEO's went so far as claiming "[Obama's] programs would bankrupt the country within three years, if implemented"

Chief Executive magazine’s most recent polling of 751 CEOs shows that GOP presidential candidate John McCain is the preferred choice for CEOs. According to the poll, which is featured on the cover of Chief Executive’s most recent issue, by a four-to-one margin, CEOs support Senator John McCain over Senator Barack Obama. Moreover, 74 percent of the executives say they fear that an Obama presidency would be disastrous for the country.

“The stakes for this presidential election are higher than they’ve ever been in recent memory,” said Edward M. Kopko, CEO and Publisher of Chief Executive magazine. “We’ve been experiencing consecutive job losses for nine months now. There’s no doubt that reviving the job market will be a top priority for the incoming president. And job creating CEOs repeatedly tell us that McCain’s policies are far more conducive to a more positive employment environment than Obama’s.”

“I’m not terribly excited about McCain being president, but I’m sure that Obama, if elected, will have a negative impact on business and the economy,” said one CEO voicing his lack of enthusiasm for either candidate, but particularly Obama.

In expressing their rejection of Senator Obama, some CEOs who responded to the survey went as far as to say that “some of his programs would bankrupt the country within three years, if implemented.” In fact, the poll highlights that Obama’s tax policies, which scored the lowest grade in the poll, are particularly unpopular among CEOs.

Despite the poll's findings, from what I can tell, even though this study was disseminated by PRNewswire, it has garnered very little mainstream media attention.

Think that would be the case if these business leaders were so negative about McCain's economic policies?

No, I don't either!

It is kind of amazing how many FReepers want me to respect their property but do not respect other property - companies.

It is none of anybodies business how much a CEO makes. I’ve known hundreds of CEOs in my career and the majority are good people with a really tough job.

I bet 99% of these whining stupid ignorant socialist FReepers that complain about CEOs could not last ten minutes in the job.

Sometimes the socialism around here is disgusting.

“It is none of anybodies business how much a CEO makes.”

Actually, what they make affects us all. See my Comments 95 and 97 for details on why, and what we as individuals (not government) can do about it.

Many of these corporate exec’s are part of the problem.

These obscene compensation packages some of these exec’s are getting needs some attention.

I love capitalism like the next guy, but there’s been too much greed and taking advantage over the last couple of decades.

I’m thinking it’s time to reign in the abuses of the recent past.

“See my Comments 95 and 97 “

Marxist nonsense. If you do not like what a CEO gets paid don’t own the stock or buy 51% of the stock and fire the CEO. Otherwise none of your business.

Now I do agree the stupid government should not be propping up companies. But if you are stupid enough to hold a stock with a stupid CEO you are stupid. as were most enron employees. Yes Enron people that “lost” money were stupid.

Which part of people voting with their pocket book is Marxist nonsense? Also since when wasn’t what happened to Enron the business of the many people burned by that meltdown after being lied to by leaders they thought they could trust? You seem to miss the point that loss of trust is a major factor in the current financial mess, so how can one make better choices if there is so much lack of trustworthy information? Or are you trusting in your mattress and that the house won’t burn down or get burgled?

"Yeh, and that’s why the Pubs manipulated oil prices to drop this month. Sheesh. Of course Paulson was working for the Dems when he proposed his unsupervised, unrestricted $700 billion bailout"

You are incredibly naive. Its not just Paulson, but 90% of the executives of financial institutions are Dems or worse. Paulson was not working for the dems, he was working for their bosses.

Amen to that brother.

I only wish McCain was out there pushing real growth initiatives - i.e., lower taxes - rather than his populist angle on renegotiating mortgages.

McCain is proposing an end-run around the global-socialist bankers here. Had the entire bailout gone for what he proposes, rather than to the criminals, the market wouldn't be tanking right now, because what he proposes will stimulate ground-level commerce quickly.

It was both, as these CEO’s are usually the most “gregarious” people in the business, and were probably the head of the sorority party house in college, and would never consider having someone smarter than them in positions beneath them, for fear of being replaced. So as they climb the ladder, play golf (and you know more deals take place on golf course than the boardroom) and sell themselves, the morons are running the company....and the over $400,000 Spa trip for AIG proves, who is running these organizations, and let’s hope they have to repay that money and are fired. God help us all.
