Obama’s defense of his Ayers association, “Just someone I knew” is incredibly flimsly, and even flake voters could see through it.
The question (problem) is
Would they care???
Don’t forget that the New York Times ran a story on Ayers’ terror activities on September 11, 2001. BHO was director of the Woods Fund board from 1999 to Dec. 11, 2002.
Barry is flat out lying about not knowing who the the real Ayers was!
Hell, even CNN aired an expose of the Obambi-Ayers relationship and found it to be rather substantial.
I would love to see McCain/Palin brought up one radical association after another, hence keeping the story on the news. It will be fun to watch Obama come out to say that he didn’t know all his past friends.

From WorldNetDaily:
Obama was a director of the Woods Fund board from 1999 to Dec. 11, 2002, according to the Fund's website. Obama served on the board with [Bill] Ayers, who was a Weathermen leader and has written about his involvement with the group's bombings of the New York City Police headquarters in 1970, the Capitol in 1971 and the Pentagon in 1972.

[Obama] is named Chairman of the Board of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge founded by Bill Ayers
(article typo has Ayers instead of Obama)
In late 1993, Bill Ayers, now an associate professor of education at the University of Illinois Chicago Circle Campus, organized a team to put together a grant proposal to secure nearly $50 million from the Annenberg Challenge. The money was to be used by Ayers and co. to bolster the radical Local School Councils reform project that Ayers and Obama had championed back in 1988 through the ABCs.
The grant application was successful and in early 1995 Barack Obama was named chairman of the board of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge. Ayers was named co-chair of the Challenges operative and strategic body, the Chicago School Reform Collaborative. Ayers and Obama work together for the next five years on raising an additional $60 million in matching money from local foundations and corporations and using the money to intervene in the governance of the Chicago public schools.
The Challenge through a multi-million dollar Leadership Development Initiative intervened in the School Council elections in the middle of what was known as the Chicago School Wars. At the same time Chicago Mayor Richard Daley was pushing, successfully, to gut the power of the Councils.

"The Small Schools Workshop was founded in 1991 at the University of Illinois at Chicago to provide support for teachers who were trying to create new smaller learning environments. Its director is Michael Klonsky, a former professor of education at UIC."

Some background on Bill Ayers' SDS comrade, Michael Klonsky
(Chicago Annenberg Challenge-related)
"One of Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrns comrades in the late 60s Students for a Democratic Society was Mike Klonsky. When Dohrn and Ayers moved in one direction toward the violent tactics of the Weather Underground, Klonsky, in the wake of the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia, dropped the pro-Russian communist politics of his parents and became a committed Maoist. As leader of the Communist Party (Marxist-Leninist) in 1977 [not to be confused with Communist Party USA. CPML no longer exists, CPUSA formed decades earlier and is still around-ETL], he travelled to Beijing and was toasted by the senior Beijing leadership.
When the crazy left of the 70s died in the 80s, Klonsky went to graduate school in education in Florida and then moved to Chicago.
While driving a cab there he [Michael Klonsky] was recruited by his old friend Bill Ayers to head up a new project called the Small Schools Workshop in 1991. Its offices were in the Department of Education building at the University of Illinois Chicago Circle Campus where Ayers taught.
In 1995 the newly formed Chicago Annenberg Challenge headed by Ayers and Obama gave the Workshop a grant of $175,000.
The Annenberg Challenge also had its office space in the same building as Ayers Department and the Workshop, rent free courtesy of the University.
In 2008 Klonsky ran a blog on the official Obama campaign website on education policy and social justice teaching. When discussion of the Klonsky blog emerged in the blogosphere, it was promptly shut down by the campaign and all of the posts made by Klonsky were removed from the site."

In 1977, the October League was reorganized as the Communist Party (Marxist-Leninist) [again, not Communist Party USA (CPUSA) -ETL] and former SDS activist Michael Klonsky became party chairman. Also in 1977, Klonsky traveled to China and the CPML was recognized by the Chinese Communist Party as its official sister party in America.
(snip)
In January 1981, Michael Klonsky resigned as party chairman, and the CPML disbanded that same year.
The previous Red Encyclopedia description of the CPML was incorrectly combined with that of the Communist Party USA (Marxist-Leninist).

From Investor's Business Daily (IBD), August 27, 2008:
"Ayers, now a tenured distinguished professor of education at UIC, works to educate teachers in socialist revolutionary ideology, urging that it be passed on to impressionable students.
One of Ayer's descriptions for a course called 'Improving Learning Environments' says prospective K-12 teachers need to 'be aware of the social and moral universe we inhabit and ... be a teacher capable of hope and struggle, outrage and action, teaching for social justice and liberation.
The Annenberg papers are quite extensive 132 boxes containing 947 file folders with 70 linear feet of material. They undoubtedly contain more surprises regarding Obama's relationship with Ayers, one of many relationships Obama has sought to hide.'..."

Article title: "No Regrets for a Love Of Explosives; In a Memoir of Sorts, a War Protester Talks of Life With the Weathermen"
"Mr. Ayers, who in 1970 was said to have summed up the Weatherman philosophy as:
'Kill all the rich people. Break up their cars and apartments. Bring the revolution home, kill your parents, that's where it's really at,' is today distinguished professor of education at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Bill Ayers TODAY (April 6, 2008), from his own red communist star-headed website, begging to debate communism vs capitalism with Sean Hannity and STILL calling for revolution!

"Imperialism. Im against it, and if Sean Hannity and others were honest, this is the ground they would fight me on. Capitalism played its role historically and is exhausted as a force for progress: built on exploitation, theft, conquest, war, and racism, capitalism and imperialism must be defeated and a world revolutiona revolution against war and racism and materialism, a revolution based on human solidarity and love, cooperation and the common good must win.
We begin by releasing our most hopeful dreams and our most radical imaginations: a better world is both possible and necessary.

Don't know how long it will last.
Of course the fall back position now is "I didn't know he was a terrorist." Information now is coming out that if he didn't know Ayers background, he was the most clueless person around as Ayers and Dohrn never hid their past and likely relished and boasted about it to their friends and peers in left-wing circles in Chicago. Information is also coming out that Obama and Ayers go back to the late 80's as a result of Michelle's work at the same law firm that Dohrn clerked for. Further, its possible (or maybe likely) that Ayers and Obama actually met back in his Columbia days when both were associated with the University (Obama as a student)
If Obama uses that tactic in the debate tomorrow (assuming the topic comes up), If McCain challenges him on these facts he’ll be cooked.
Thanks Tex! Sending it along.
Amazing!
And the flag-stomping photo was published on the cover of Chicago magazine the week after 9-11.
Anderson Cooper and CNN allowed Kurtz to be shown on television? They allowed this story? Are we in Bizarro World?
Listen, I was an ordinary working stiff in Chicago in the 1990’s. Politically interested but not politically active. I knew exactly who William Ayers was. Obama is totally lying.
CNN Democrats were just on Larry King insisting that flag-stomping is respectable activity.
What pisses me off more than the fact that Obama and Ayers are friends is that this POS is living off the taxpayers as a "distinguished" professor of Education at the Univiersity of Illinois.
He should have been executed. He is as evil as Charles Manson and yet instead of dying in prison or being hung, he is teaching our children at the taxpayers expense.
How in the hell did the University of Illinois ever end up hiring this traitor?

Community Organizing: A Chicago Tradition
by * Gordon Mayer
Updated April 2005
Chicago is the birthplace of community organizing — no doubt in part because Chicago is the birthplace of Saul Alinsky, who is credited with developing the idea and method of community organizing. Two books he wrote on the subject, “Reveille for Radicals” and “Rules for Radicals” remain in print, and a recent documentary, “The Democratic Promise: Saul Alinsky and His Legacy,” profiles his life and continuing influence.
Alinsky founded the Back of the Yards Neighborhood Council in 1939, at the height of the CIO drive to organize packinghouse workers. Extending the efforts of labor organizing beyond the workplace, BYNC brought together 185 delegate organizations, including churches and ethnic societies.
In addition to supporting the CIO, BYNC won nutritional and recreational programs as well as housing code enforcement, and even opened a credit union. Governor Adlai Stevenson called the organization “the best example of living democracy I have ever seen.” Later Alinsky helped found several community organizations in Chicago, including The Woodlawn Organization, which took on slumlords and the city.
Alinsky taught that organized money and organized people are the only two bases of power in American society — and the work of community organizers is with people. The role of organizing in communities typically is twofold: to bring about social change that improves the lives of the less affluent and less powerful while developing these individuals’ leadership skills and abilities.
These goals support each other as leaders boost their ability to tackle ever-larger issues as they move from one campaign to another. Many leaders of community groups tell stories of how their experiences transform their lives in the process of improving their communities.
Alinsky went on to start a national network, the Industrial Areas Foundation, which is still in existence and headquartered in Chicago. Since then, community groups with diverse styles and structures have flowered. Some models of community organization include groups based in churches; coalitions or “organizations of organizations” with many institutional members; and groups made up of individuals who live in the same community or share an interest in a specific issue.
What follows is a list of Chicago-area groups involved in community organizing , divided into four categories:
Community-based organizations, or CBOs, whose primary focus is community organizing within a specific community or group of communities;
Community Development Corporations or CDCs, focused on developing the business base or building and managing affordable housing. The groups listed here also have organizing as a core component of their activity;
Issue And Advocacy Organizations, Regional Coalitions, Trainers;
Networks of grassroots organizations. Three national community organizing networks began and have headquarters in Chicago. They’re distinguished by differences of emphasis and style — and there is also some competition among them. Training in their own style of organizing, centralized research or issue development, and fundraising and development are among the roles these organizations play for their networks.
Several local foundations which provide crucial support for community organizing in Chicago are also listed; their staff is often aware of major issues and new trends in organizing.
