As the 110th Congress comes to a close, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says he's feeling pretty good about the work he and his colleagues accomplished.
"Democrats were able to achieve many things for the American people," he said, offering as examples raising the minimum wage, increasing funding for veterans and helping consumers in a struggling economy.
Add to that list new lobbying rules, an energy bill, a farm bill, and most recently an economic recover package.
But as significant as those new laws are, Democrats have just as long a list of priorities they were not able to bring to fruition.
In the summer of 2006, just a few months before Democrats started campaigning in earnest to take both chambers of Congress, the party laid out its agenda -- the "six for '06."
Among their goals was new funding for embryonic stem cell research, an issue that has been a flash point between liberals and conservatives for many years.
The measure (S 5) passed both chambers, but it was vetoed by President Bush on July 20, 2007.
Also left unfulfilled was the Democrats' promise to expand the State Children's Health Insurance Program to cover about 10 million more children -- an expensive venture that was shuttled back and forth between chambers and repeatedly caught up in partisan squabbles.

Well they blew up the global financial system with Freddie & Fannie and had the lowest poll numbers in history but the sheeple will relelect the Dems.
96% of incumbents get re-elected.
We get what we deserve.. or so some might say.
Whatever the record is , The Dems are FouR Square smack dab in the middle of why we set so many so recently!
Folk can argue as they will but a forensic review of the Republic’s financial ruins would speak otherwise.

They forgot bringing down the American economy. Quite an accomplishment.
Increasing the minimum wage is about the ONLY thing this congress accomplished. Any Economics 101 student who didn't sleep through class should be able to tell you that increasing minimum wage will lead to increased unemployment. But after the democrats raised minimum wage, and unemployment predictably increased this year despite continued growth in GDP, Pelosi and Reid have the audacity, or the ignorance, to claim that the increase in unemployment is due to "the failed economic policies of the President".
And they did it with one of the lowest approval ratings ever. But they’ll get re-elected by stupid people.

AP - NEW YORK - Wall Street suffered through another traumatic session Monday, with the Dow Jones industrials plunging as much as 800 points and setting a new record for a one-day point drop as investors despaired that the credit crisis would take a heavy toll around the world. The Dow also fell below 10,000 for the first time since 2004, and all the major indexes fell about 5 percent.

How about Obama openly campaigning for his communist cousin Odinga who signed a pact with Muslims to enact Sharia Law if elected and started riots when he lost. Obama campaigned for an openly Anti-American candidate in a foreign country in 2006.
