The lights at the Westglen 18 Theater in Kansas City, Kansas, in the heartland of America, went down on a packed house of young and old all anxiously awaiting the beginning of An American Carol, the latest movie from David Zucker the brilliant humorist behind the Airplane and Naked Gun movies. Zucker film veteran Leslie Nielsen opens the film, telling his grandkids the tale of one Michael Malone a producer of anti-American documentaries and the instigator of a movement to abolish the Fourth of July. Borrowing from Dickens A Christmas Carol, Malone is visited by John F. Kennedy, played by Chriss Anglin, General George S. Patton, played with a perfect balance of comedic timing and seriousness by Kelsey Grammer and the Angel of Death played by country music superstar Trace Atkins, who take Malone on a life changing journey past, present and future. An excellent cast of characters include bumbling terrorists, John Voights stellar performance as George Washington and the ACLU lawyer destroying judge played by Dennis Hopper, whose character brought down the house with cheers from the audience. Cameos by John OHurley, Paris Hilton and others too numerous to mention, were just a few of the surprises that kept movie goers on the edge of their seats.
Zuckers truthful portrayal of our brave men and women in the US military fighting to keep our nation safe were aptly honored and portrayed as the heroes they are while contrasting it with absurdity of radical Islamic jihadists, portrayed to comedic, yet realistic, perfection by Geoffrey Arend, Serdar Kalsin and Robert Davi.

Does anyone have the opening gross take on the movie?
Boxofficemojo was showing about 4 million as of yesterday. It was ninth. Bill Maher’s Christian bashing was 10th with almost as much money. The Chihuahua movie made about 30 million and was first.
“Blast?”
Don’t do like I did. Went to see with wife and teenage daughters. I was in typical Sunday mode- no shower, no shave, just toss on a cap and go. We picked up a gob of candy at the drug store on the way.
So there I sit- a chunk of chocolate fell and stained my shirt. I was feeling like the shaggy fat slob Michael! (LOL!)
Enjoyed the show, but do yourself a favor. Clean up before you go!
The characters at his headquarters were spot on. Ditto with the chant-bots at the rally. They really had the libs pegged! It was fun. Not all hilarious laugh-out-loud, but worth the trip.
$3.8 mil vs. $3.5 for Maher’s abomination.
I saw it over the weekend. I was very excited about it but have to say it could have been done better. It needed an extra 20 minutes so they could flesh out some scenes a little more. Kelsey Grammer was great. So was Farley, the lead guy. The JFK guy was great, too.
I hope this movie does well!
My Vote's for Obama (if I could vote) ...by Michael Moore
Friends,
I don't get to vote for President this primary season. I live in Michigan. The party leaders (both here and in D.C.) couldn't get their act together, and thus our votes will not be counted.
So, if you live in Pennsylvania, can you do me a favor? Will you please cast my vote -- and yours -- on Tuesday for Senator Barack Obama?

The Communist Party USA (CPUSA):
"We are a party of unity in action. We are an integral part of every struggle and movement for change to eliminate poverty and joblessness, against racism and for full equality. We are participants, initiators and leaders of every movement to make life better now and much better in a socialist future." Yeah, so they supported an oppressive dictator, like the Repubs and Democrats haven't? The CP is still around, has apologized for that whole Stalin thing, and has a quickly growing youth section.

I did not appreciate them showing previews of Maher’s basphemy at American Carol. I’m sure they just roll a generic preview reel, but it pissed me off.
I saw it at 3 on Friday and there was a sprinkling of folks in the audience but we all laughed out loud throughout. I found it hilarious.
Hillarious,
AND PULLED NO PUNCHES.
(ACLU depicted as zombie squad)
I saw it and recommend it to everyone here. It’s an excellent comedy with well directed punches against the liberal agenda and their fantasies. The campus demonstration scenes are the best.
I’ll add in my money this evening. Got tied up over the weekend.
Biggest problem, IMO, seemed to be distribution. Here in Seminole County, FL (very conservative suburban Orlando), American Carol was only showing in 2 theatres. NOT in major cineplexes in the big malls here. Family and I saw it twice over the weekend.
Glad to hear folks in Kansas City went out to see the movie. I need to do it...... Here in Lenexa.
The “S” on that ballcap obviously stands for “Sh!thead”...
I enjoyed it, it had a lot of jokes sometimes difficult to keep up with all of the lines.
Some very enjoyable parts like when Marone looks out over the audience while at the pro-America concert and sees soldiers from past wars standing there.
A great way to portray what our soldiers fight for.
Totally agree. It wasn’t playing at my local theater this weekend, so I didn’t get to see it. I had no idea the distribution would be so poor, so I didn’t even bother checking before making a wasted trip to the theater.
Not only was it funny, but it was very very powerful.
John Voight was magnificant as Washington.
I wouldn’t call it a comedy, nor would I call it a spoof.
I would call it ridiculing the left’s true agenda with the truth.
