Ayers, Obama shared stage in 1997; Michelle Obama praised
The University of Chicago Chronicle ^ | 11/6/97

Children who kill are called "super predators," "people with no conscience," "feral pre-social beings" -- and "adults."

William Ayers, author of A Kind and Just Parent: The Children of Juvenile Court (Beacon Press, 1997), says "We should call a child a child. A 13-year-old who picks up a gun isn't suddenly an adult. We have to ask other questions: How did he get the gun? Where did it come from?"

Ayers, who spent a year observing the Cook County Temporary Juvenile Detention Center in Chicago, is one of four panelists who will speak on juvenile justice at 6 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, in the C-Shop. The panel, which marks the 100th anniversary of the juvenile justice system in the United States, is part of the Community Service Center's monthly discussion series on issues affecting the city of Chicago. The event is free and open to the public.

Ayers will be joined by Sen. Barack Obama, Senior Lecturer in the Law School, who is working to combat legislation that would put more juvenile offenders into the adult system; Randolph Stone, Director of the Mandel Legal Aid Clinic; Alex Correa, a reformed juvenile offender who spent seven years in Cook County Temporary Detention Center; Frank Tobin, a former priest and teacher at the Detention Center who helped Correa; and Willy Baldwin, who grew up in public housing and is currently a teacher at the Detention Center.

The juvenile justice system was founded by Chicago reformer Jane Addams, who advocated the establishment of a separate court system for children which would act like a "kind and just parent" for children in crisis.

One hundred years later, the system is "overcrowded, under-funded, over-centralized and racist," Ayers said.

Michelle Obama, Associate Dean of Student Services and Director of the University Community Service Center, hopes bringing issues like this to campus will open a dialogue between members of the University community and the broader community.

"Students and faculty explore these issues in the classroom, but it is an internal conversation," Obama said. "We know that issues like juvenile justice impact the city of Chicago, this nation and -- directly or indirectly -- this campus. This panel gives students a chance to hear about the juvenile justice system not only on a theoretical level, but from the people who have experienced it."

From reading the article, it was Michelle Obama who organized the panel, i.e. she invited Ayers.

But Obama didn’t know Ayers. LOL, BO can’t stop lying. And why does BO dodge the financial issues that were caused by his party? Why did BO take money from Fanny Mae?

If the rumor is correct that Ayers was Obama’s ghost writer for his books, it’s game over.

If it can be proved in time, by forensic English.

What an incredibly ugly sourpuss. I'm talking about Reid. Doctrinaire leftists are worse than doctrinaire conservatives because the conservatives recognize an authority that lies outside their individual selves and doctrinaire liberals believe that they are one with the praxis of history. Because of this, they are the hands and mouths of this irresistible historical force. Since there is, according to their beliefs, no difference between what they believe and reality itself, whatever they say and whatever they do must be right. And whatever contradicts their pronouncements and tries to counter their actions is an enemy of reality. One doesn't argue with an enemy of reality because that would imply that both parties to the argument share a common ground and that the argument is designed to clarify truth. But since the leftists know the truth and are the truth ("we are the change we have been waiting for"), any challenge can come only from an enemy that must be destroyed and by any means available.

“...Oh, they were together on some education project, but McCain is so desperate,...”

Just prior to that, one of Obama’s hacks was interviewed by Doocy. Doocy mentioned that the NYT opened the door on Ayers. The hack said, “I’m sure many people were surprised to learn Gov Palin reads the NYT...”

GRrrrrrr

I want to smack some of these despicable shills!

Four years AFTER this, Ayers was STILL a terrorism advocate.

All I would ask is that no one confuse the Weather Underground Bill Ayers with the notorious child psychiatrist Dr. William Ayres, arrested in California last year for molesting many young boys. Many people are.

Glenn Beck on Dr. William Ayres:

I have a really hard time dealing with the fact that such “people,” such MONSTERS as Ayers and Dohrn are now heads of academic departments at major American universities, in charge of disposing of millions and millions of dollars of grants from OUR tax money, serving on boards that influence the education of millions of children, and heading up professional legal associations.

What kind of nightmare are we living in??

"They just happen to be “in the same neighborhood” a lot, don’t they?"

Maybe they were in the same apatment.

Ayers was at Columbia University the same time as Obama.

Obama has carefully said almost nothing about his life at Columbia. The only friend that we know he had was Saddiqui.

I'd use these same terms to describe the terrorists of the Weather Underground.

I remember when the media was reporting news stories this summer and the WHOLE of the story was "look at the size crowds that guy Obama is drawing!"

Where are the photos of the crowds Biden is drawing?

Bill Clinton pardoned a couple of the members of the Weather Underground as he was leaving office.

Yep. But will McCain allow them to be released.

As a a supporter of McCain's during the primary, I am very disappointed in his lack of fighting back.

He will have a great opportunity to destroy Obama tomorrow night, and he better do it.
