Thousands Of Dead People On Connecticut's Voter Rolls
Hartford Courant ^ | 10/6/2008 | Shawn R. Beals

Posted on 10/06/2008 3:36:11 AM PDT by markomalley

An in-depth look at voter rolls across the state by a group of University of Connecticut journalism students earlier this year found that about 8,500 dead people were registered to vote, and that clerical errors made it appear that 300 of them actually had voted.

A closer look by state election officials thus far has found no evidence of election fraud, though the review is ongoing. The students' effort focused attention on weaknesses in public record-keeping at the local level that allowed thousands of mistakes to go undetected.

After the report appeared in The Courant in April, Secretary of the State Susan Bysiewicz started an investigation to determine if local officials were taking all appropriate measures to ensure the accuracy of voter lists.

Six months into the review, and less than a month from a presidential election, Bysiewicz said her office has been — and still is — working with local officials to make sure that the names of the deceased are removed from voter rolls.

The review won't be finished before the Nov. 4 election, she said.

"While we want to remove dead people from the rolls, we don't want to be overzealous and disenfranchise people," Bysiewicz said Friday.

She said that since the data were collected by the UConn group, 5,300 names have been confirmed deceased and they have been taken off voter lists across the state. Another 1,300 are under review, and the rest have been corrected through the normal course of voter registrations.

Just heard it on WDRC AM, a local Hartford, CT consertive talkradio station. The first thing I was thinking was “Chicago” and its dead voting.

McCain had better put some fund towards investigating this in all the key states, now.

Where I came from in Ga., you couldn’t get elected unless you carried the cadaver vote. Is this really a surprise to anyone?

Let me give you a hint. Look at the signatures of those who have to have help voting because they can’t read. Do any of them have RN or some other designation at the end of their signature? Was their spouse in line behind them, but couldn’t help them read the ballot?

Of course, very little of that matters now. All you have to do is get the absentee ballot and sell it to the highest bidder.

Yet another state that tolerates corruption. If politicians really wanted to, they could make the voting system as secure as the state lottery.

Here in Chicago they say you should vote Republican while your alive, because you can always for Democrat when you’re dead.

“5,300 names have been confirmed deceased and they have been taken off voter lists across the state. Another 1,300 are under review, and the rest have been corrected through the normal course of voter registrations.”

They’re making good progress.

How long will this nation go on letting this stuff stand? It’s really , REALLY time for some positive ID, proof of voting record receipt, and a foolproof way to prevent someone from voting twice. THEN, add in some extreme penalties for ANY vote fraud, counting irregularities, or manipulation. Ay type of vote fraud is in essence shots being fired in a war against our country. Treat it as such!

First step is to purge all voter rolls after every election.

I got a pollster calling me 2 weeks ago, looking for my father, who did in January of ‘07.

When I told the guy that my dad had passed away, he very rudely hung up on me.

‘clerical errors’ made it appear that 300 dead people had voted???

ummm, yeah. That’s the point of having dead people on the voter rolls. They vote ‘absentee’ (all puns intended).

The review won't be finished before the Nov. 4 election, she said.

Did we expect any different? This is only the tip of the iceberg. The same will be found in all 57 states.

(no typos)
