We started out with a very mild drizzly-rain. On and off for the first hour. Not enough for me to bother with a plastic poncho - yet. But a little after 8pm it started to pick up. By the time the bus arrived - 9:40pm - we were experiencing a steady rain. Didn't dampen our spirits. Before the rain kicked in Olney-Keith and Kburi had a chance to talk to a WR patient who was on his way to the airport. His name is Chaz. Chaz was wounded in Iraq and is doing well. He is with the 25th Inf Div. Homebound to Philadelphia. Godspeed, Chaz! Check out a few more pics at: VAFlagwaver's Photbucket album Honor Roll:
If you can't get to D.C. to join us but would like to do something for the wounded, you can find a wealth of ideas by FReepmailing Tom the Redhunter, Cindy-True-Supporter, VAFlagwaver, or PleaDeal. Come join us every Friday night between the hours of 6:30pm to approx 9:30pm. Directions to our Walter Reed freep location from the Takoma metro station BufordP's Walter Reed FReep archive PleaDeal's (GunnNutt) blog at Semper Gratus

DC Chapter ping
You forgot to mention that at 9:35PM, in a steady rain, that we got word the dinner bus would be coming around 10:30PM. The FReepers looked at each other, shrugged our shoulders, and went back to showing our support for our troops. We will be there no matter when the bus arrives. God responded by having the bus come post haste, 50 minutes earlier than we expected.
And no sooner had the bus passed thru the gate, then the rain let up. We packed up dripping wet banners and signs, but at least it wasn’t raining.
Other than that, GREAT AAR. Thanks.

You guys in the DC Chapter are awesome !!!
God Bless you all !!!!
Just wanted to update you on the Friday Night Steak Dinners for our injured service members recovering at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. As you recall, Hal Koster, former co-owner of Fran OBriens Steak House, started free steak dinners back in October 2003 and in April 2006 the restaurant lost its lease at the Capital Hilton Hotel location. Your group and other military bloggers fought a great battle to assist in getting the word out in hopes to overturn the Hiltons decision and Hal greatly appreciated your efforts.
Hal founded The Aleethia Foundation, a fully volunteer organization (www.aleethia.org) and through many challenges Hal has been able to continue these dinners. Since May 5, 2006, it has been a moveable feast. Several venues including the Capitol Hill Club, City Club, Mortons Army Navy Club, Washington Golf and Country Club have offered space for the dinners. Corporations, AEI, Ambassadors of Italy, Australia, Taiwan, Israel, and many others have sponsor dinners at their facilities. On this Friday, October 17th, we will have our 5th year reunion of the Friday Night Steak Dinners, with many of our first time service members returning to DC. Thanks again for your support of our troops and for all you do. The troops look forward to you welcoming them back after the dinners on Friday night.
DC Chapter ping to post #13.
Thanks for that info, Margaret. Happy Anniversary!
Tom, JVB, and kburi,
We need to include info on the Aleethia Foundation (www.aleethia.org) as boilerplate in our AARs from now on.
