U.S. military says al Qaeda in Iraq mastermind dead (CNN admits terrorist were in Iraq before war)

BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- Coalition forces in Baghdad have killed the man believed to be the mastermind of recent bombings in the Iraqi capital, the U.S. military said.

Mahir Ahmad Mahmud Judu al-Zubaydi, also known as Abu Rami and Abu Assad, was believed to be the leader of one of al Qaeda in Iraq's Baghdad networks, the military said in a statement issued Friday.

The military said intelligence reports led coalition forces to a building in Baghdad's Adhamiya neighborhood Friday. They surrounded the building and called on the occupants to surrender but were engaged by small arms fire, the military said.

The forces returned fire and killed two people, Abu Rami and a female, the military said.

"Sadly, here again is a case where (al Qaeda in Iraq) has put innocent lives in danger in order to protect themselves and shield their terrorist efforts," said Rear Adm. Patrick Driscoll, a spokesman for the Multi-National Force in Iraq.

Coalition forces had evacuated several children from the building before they performed a controlled detonation of ordnance inside the building, the military said. The house caught fire after the detonation, the military said, and the forces called the local fire department for assistance.

The U.S. military blames Abu Rami for masterminding numerous car bombings, including a October 2 suicide car bombing that killed eight people and wounded more than 30. The attack happened outside a Shiite mosque in Baghdad just as worshippers left early-morning prayers marking the end of Ramadan.

Where did CNN admit that terrorists were in Iraq before the war? I read the whole article, but must have missed it.

Last paragraph, although I don't interpret it that way:

Abu Rami was originally a member of the terrorist group Ansar al-Islam and joined al Qaeda in Iraq in 2004, the military said. He came the military "emir" of Baghdad's Rusafa district last year before taking over all terrorist operations there, the military said.

You have to know about Ansar al Islam and Ansar al Sunna to see where they accidently admitted terrorist were there.
Al Qaeda means the base and are formed from many different terrorist groups, including at least 3 from Iraq. The names always change but the players remain the same.

"Sadly, here again is a case where (al Qaeda in Iraq) has put innocent lives in danger in order to protect themselves and shield their terrorist efforts," said Rear Adm. Patrick Driscoll, a spokesman for the Multi-National Force in Iraq.

Very early in the article the message is that Americans killed innocent civilians who were being used by al-Qaida. CNN has to taint every piece of good news in any way they can.

As much as I hate that children were involved, any adults that are killed are usually not that innocent. They know the terrorist live there amongst them but refuse to put an end to their deadly deeds. In many cases they actually assist the terrorist. It's the same way in some inner-city ghettos. The cops could be chasing a suspect into a building of apartments and some residents are helping the suspect elude the police.
The US is winning the War on Terror because the terrorist have transformed from a formidable military apparatus to merely a criminal apparatus. That was not by accident.

I clicked on the link at the bottom of the article. Among other things, CNN posted an article about US friendly fire killing Iraqis. You had to read the article to find out that the Iraqis had fired on the US soldiers first. They also put up an article about two US soldiers charged with the murder of a detainee. They are trying to “My Lai” us out of Iraq.

Research is your friend and it’s something the MSM doesn’t know how to do.

I hear you! I cut a little more slack though. In many cases the "innocent civilians" are convinced that if they cooperate with the US, they are facing a death sentence at home. Having said that, this fact should in no way hinder the military from doing its job of protecting me.

I’m familiar with that. I just asked where CNN ADMITS that terrorists were in Iraq before the war. It’s misleading to say that CNN admits anything like that when its really a matter of reading between the lines. So, its a misleading statement to say such.

That is why a timetable for withdrawal IS, as Gov. Palin said, “a white flag of surrender”.

We get the cooperation of the locals when they figure we are there to stay, we are stronger, and it is the terrorists who are under death sentence, not them if they help or even work for or with the Americans or the Iraqi government.

your point is well taken.

Back in the middle ages, and even in the 20th century, conquerors were not worried about nation building. Conquerors had one goal, to win and then plunder. I guess there is a price to pay for fighting a kinder, gentler kind of war.

Then where is Ansar al Islam from and when were they formed? I didn't say they purposely admitted it.
The MSM is not going to outwardly admit anything. Reading between the lines is subjective whereas critical reading is learning about what was written.
The MSM can't have it both ways by claiming no Al-Qaeda linked terrorist groups were in Iraq before we arrived then claim this terrorist was a member of a terrorist group in Iraq known to have been there before we arrived.

There is a price to pay for our style of warfare.

But also a reward.

Japan buys our products and builds us electronic goods.

Germany makes us Beer and buys our products.

South Korea buys our stuff and makes us goods.

None of them want us to leave. All of them respect and admire U.S. culture to some extent. All of them are free and prosperous as a result of our “kinder and gentler” style of warfare, our idealism, and our goal of a Mercantile Empire not a Political one.

I happen to think they were there. I was just pointing out that the article didn’t really admit anything. I thought ‘hey cool, finally an admission in an article to post to other forums’. Bah, not so much!

“...Al Qaeda means the base and are formed from many different terrorist groups, including at least 3 from Iraq. The names always change but the players remain the same...”

I recall an editorial cartoon from the 80s when Lebanon was in turmoil that had a 6 panel spread of the same terrorist with 6 different terror group names.

It is no wonder the average person is confused. That is the plan.

The more things change the more they stay the same.
