I also take your point that we cannot just pussyfoot around with fanatics who want to get Medieval on us; but we need a juicy carrot to go along with the Teddy's “Big Stick” that we need to speak softly as we carry. ;)

Today we put up with a lot of crap from many places because of our war goals, strategies and tactics. We could just defeat the enemy and leave, returning once new leadership has declared war on us.
As you so aptly pointed out, nation building has benefits to us. This process takes much longer and does give some protection to innocent civilians. Unfortunately, it also give the left a chance to fight against conservatism.
Fortunately, we are doing the right thing. Fortunately, we have a president who is willing to take his lumps because what we are doing is the correct thing.
