Biden-Obama Position: Courts Should Have Power to Reset Mortgage Principal
transcript of Biden/Palin debate - cnn | 10/3/08 | Biden

Biden -"Number two, with regard to bankruptcy now, Gwen, what we should be doing now -- and Barack Obama and I support it -- we should be allowing bankruptcy courts to be able to re-adjust not just the interest rate you're paying on your mortgage to be able to stay in your home, but be able to adjust the principal that you owe, the principal that you owe."

That would be the neighborly thing to do, don’t you think?

Republicans have no basis for arguing against this or ANY socialist takeover after caving on the ‘bailout’ . Capitialism is dead. Free Markets are dead. Conservative arguments are dead. Republicans are dead, the party of NOTHING. Here’s what Bush and McCain GAVE the democrats:

This was the most frightening exchange in the whole debate!

I honestly thought that I was reading democratic underground when he said that. I really thought I misunderstood. Guess not.

I heard that, turned to my wife and said, "WHAT?!"
Does that mean someone could go before a court and say, "I owe $200,000 on this property. Could you make it $50,000? I'd be a lot more comfortable with that."
Un-fricken-believable.

You pay $50,000 and the taxpayers pay the remaining $150,000.

I don’t think McCain, etc. endorse anything like what Biden said in this debate: re-setting the principal on a MORTGAGE?

I heard the same thing and almost fell out of my chair. To me the real scary part is resetting the mortgage principle goes both ways. If the courts can lower them, what makes them think they can't increase them ..... based upon ability to pay? How else does the bank brake even on the loans? How else can the government brake even on the tax revenue they bring in on home ownership?

It wasn’t a gaffe, and he is that dumb.

ACORN strategy for after Obama is elected. Iwas shocked Biden was so blatant in announcing it, but if they win, look for exactly this plan to be tried. It sounds so, noble, saving poor people from ahving their houses seized by the man. Another form of income redistribution is all this is.

Yes. I heard it, and then my mouth hung open for at least two minutes until the NEXT O’Biden gaffe!

This would be DISASTROUS to real estate nationwide!! In fact, this one thing could possibly drop the economy into a complete depression! He is espousing the wholesale devaluing of real estate, at a time where real estate is already devalued. You want to see job loss, and a free-falling dollar?

My question is: did he pull that one out of his arse, or is this something that he has actually given a few minutes of thought too?

Frickin’ dimwit who has absolutely NO CLUE as to how a free-market economy works after 30 years in the Senate!

It thought it was a gaffe, but he repeated it twice! Here's the direct quote from the transcript:

Number two, with regard to bankruptcy now, Gwen, what we should be doing now -- and Barack Obama and I support it -- we should be allowing bankruptcy courts to be able to re-adjust not just the interest rate you're paying on your mortgage to be able to stay in your home, but be able to adjust the principal that you owe, the principal that you owe.

That would keep people in their homes, actually help banks by keeping it from going under. But John McCain, as I understand it -- I'm not sure of this, but I believe John McCain and the governor don't support that.

Transcript is here.

I’d settle for a property tax reduction. The county reassessed my half of the county last year and were due to reassess the other half this year, but since it is an election year, they put it off.

What really angers me about the assessment is that the enviro nazis on the council, decided to set a prix fixe for all acreage in the county, so now matter the location or the true value of the property, you pay the same rate per acre, probably more per acre for commercial acreage.

I was raising hell about this a few days ago when I heard it mentioned on TV as part of the bailout amendments that the Dems wanted. Absolutely insane.

I am not sure legal redress is such a bad thing if it can be shown a lender did not exercise some level of fiduciary responsibility.

What if the gubint redefines what you call "fiduciary responsibility" as "oppression"? And they make it illegal, so you have to lend against your better judgment to stay in business?

What would be proper redress for that situation?

Biden, et al. are proposing a "hair of the dog" cure. As one commentator put it years ago, "The people who created the problem now propose, as the only solution, an increase in power for themselves."

Ain't buying.

I am saying that by McCain supporting an invester bailout bill (which is socialist) he cannot argue against any expansion of government power to ‘HELP THE PEOPLE’ . Any resistance will be seen as ‘trickle down, love the rich, and hate the poor’ as Obama and democrats say. He cant oppose anything now without being laughted at.

Here’s what Bush and McCain GAVE the democrats:

“I WILL take steps up front to minimize my risk, including NOT LENDING to some people at all.”

it was boneheaded to say it, but considering the economic climate today - with the banks worried about their own survival - well it had to be the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen a politician do (and that is saying alot).

If Palin had said something remotely boneheaded like that people would have been harassing her for her resignation today.
