$700B and Not a Single Testimony From An Expert? Enough of this Cr*p!!

Posted on 10/03/2008 5:55:30 AM PDT by Hillary'sMoralVoid

How much time did the Senate spend debating this $700B BILL?

How many experts did they call in to testify?

How has the Senate clarified and further defined the bailout program? What limitations and safeguards were added, if any?

How many pages of the Bill deal with details about the bailout?

How many pages of the Bill deal with Pork?

What got more attention from the Senate, the Bailout or the Pork?

Does the Senate have any idea as to whether or not this will even work? Did they ask anyone?

Who, if anyone, in the Senate has the expertise to evaluate this bailout and its chances of success.

I think you all have a pretty good idea about the answers to this questions.

This Cr#p has to stop.

The Republicans need to stay in session like they did early this year and get testimony from every top economist they can find. Let the Democrats go out and campaign with their heads up their A$$es.

I’m apparently more of an expert than anyone on the pro bailout side. After all, I’m not the idiot who was spending more money than I had.

Good points, but you are probably just talking to the wall.

This bill was rushed through in haste. That's a sign of a bad bill. A bill usually gets committee hearings, a markup, invited expert witness testimony, relevant amendments and careful consideration prior to being brought up on the floor. The bailout bill got none of that and its loaded with pork. No good conservative should support it.

if mccain wins we have a chance to revisit the issue. there’s a crisis right before an election so it is difficult to get a full debate.

If McCain wins he should appoint a 9/11 type commission to investigate how we got into this disaster (hint: Fannie and Freddie) and how to prevent it from happening again (hint: less not more gov’t intervention).

Point of fact. See my tagline. Maybe more after today.

Prof. Charles Calomiris of Columbia, an expert in finance who has testified many times, questioned this exact thing: why no hearings?

Judge Napalitano( sp? ) on Fox Business last night said the bill was unconstitutional. He said it gave Paulson the power to take any asset, property, security and force you to sell it.

He said AIG was out and out stolen by the Federal government.

When asked why Hank Greenberg and share holders didn't sue, he said they might, but in most cases, if Paulson, or whoever is the Treasury Secretary, you will be too broke to ever sue, and it will take decades.

Welcome to command economy folks.

A crisis is a good reason to avoid acting in haste. Once a bailout is in place, it will be impossible to sunset the beast. I defy you to name me ONE federal program that has ever been terminated long after the perceived need for it was gone.

More than 8 of every 10 members in Congress lack an education in business, economics, or finance.

Where can you find any better experts at wasting, squandering and stealing money than the members of the United States Congress?

What bothers me most is that the dumb clucks who dropped us in this heap of s%$#, are the same dumb clucks who want us to believe ONLY they are competent to sort out the problem and do the fix!

Its not exactly like Armageddon was around the corner. I doubt they will kill the beast this time around. The perceived political need to do something will be greater than the collective wisdom to slow down and take a second look at it. I hope I'm wrong but in Washington they do things like this more often wrong than right.

Please read my Senator's comments on voting against this travesty. Mike Crapo is honest on thie issue. The Bill has not been given thescrubbing or attention it needs and is clearly being rushed through and crammed down the American people's throates.

-- More than 8 of every 10 members in Congress lack an education in business, economics, or finance. --

Mr. REID: In summary, if we could afford to authorize $700 billion last evening to assist financial forces to unclog credit markets, to begin to provide support for the economy, then we certainly can afford to help individuals who are looking for work and can't find it and are desperate.

Herbert Hoover's ghost is apparently stalking the pages of Free Republic. At least that seems to be the attitude of so many... too many. Even Jack Kemp supports the rescue plan.

Thanks for making a very good point!!! There have been a lot more vanities on FR in the last few days, but as those of here know, the MSM has completely failed in doing its job.

I wonder how many realize that some 2.3 trillion dollars of taxpayer money went missing sometime prior to 9/11? On 9/10/01 Donald Rumsfeld testified that some 2.3 trillion dollars was missing. (it appears that Rummy was looking out for us) For obvious reasons the story was forgotten the next day.
