[...with the] presidential elections just weeks away, there are unprecedented efforts to turn out young voters and indications that they are paying closer attention to the campaigns than they have in years.
...at least 2.6 million new voters between the ages of 18 and 29 have been registered the vast majority via the internet.
The New Voters Project has registered 347,000 youth voters in swing states, including Colorado, Oregon, Iowa, New Mexico, Nevada and Wisconsin. At the University of Iowa, the group is registering 500 students a day...
Anecdotal and quantitative evidence suggest that Democrats and independent groups that support Democrats have done a better job than Republicans at registering new voters in key battleground states. In a normal year, the difficulty in getting the newly registered to the polls might mitigate this advantage. But anti-Bush passions on the left are running exceedingly high, making it more likely that marginal voters -- people who rarely or never vote -- will turn out this year.
That could have been my assessment four years ago. What happened? A backlash against the media and Democrats like I dont recall seeing in my lifetime. After losing the general election by a half million votes just four years earlier, President Bush won just over 3 million votes and captured 286 electoral votes.
Wanna argue my last point, that the media wasnt as bad four years ago as it is today? Think again. We had a North Vietnamese war hero (idolized in a portrait in the Communist country) on videotape smearing his country and her military during a time of war. About 250 of his wartime colleagues, including a Medal of Honor winner, held a press conference denouncing him in May 2004. They were virtually ignored, and had to raise their own funds just to be heard.
Not only are McCain/Palin not losing right now, theyre still in a stronger position than the Obamessiah.
The only way Obamessiah/Biden win in November is if were all foolish enough to buy this Dem-created and media-driven nonsense. After the Palin selection they know they cant realistically win, due to a fired up conservative base. Their only chance is to depress conservative turnout. And based on the garbage Ive seen on this forum a lot from folks who should know better Id say theyre at least partially succeeding.
To all you hysterical drama queens and handwringers apparently suffering from amnesia and political bipolar disorder, I leave you with the words of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger [sort of] at the 2004 GOP convention:
Dont be a girlie man
vote McCain/Palin!!
Ping
Amen. Whining and hand-wringing is for losers. Winners are too busy winning.
Got Milk?
Vanity: for when a simple thread reply doesn’t provide enough satisfaction for the ego.
By the way, Homer, this ain't even close to being a vanity. ;-) Way too much data!
I for one welcome our new Stalinist masters. /s/
Not even able to read the whole thing were ya? Too many big words? Too many shiny links? :-D
The “youth vote” is a myth. They register, but they do not vote. This has been proven in every election since 1968.
Hussein and his wife are the most arrogant people on the face of this earth right now. If they get in, people will begin to despise them as their true intentions will come through. The young are swooning for them because they believe the facade. The mask will come off before too long and it won’t be pretty for the Obamas. We never thought the media would turn on the clinton’s, but the did eventually.
Geeze,
For a second there I thought you were going off the deep end tonight too.
McCain is in trouble at the moment driven by the financial mess, but it’s not as bad (YET!) as so many are saying on FR..As a matter of fact it is getting so bad here, I think I may need to stay away until after the election.
McCain never had my support anyway until someone on his staff had the brilliance to put Palin on the ticket and for a time there I thought he was finally going to engage and do what he was nominated to do.
Alas, beginning with that schizophrenic move last week where he suspended the campaign and flew to Washington (brilliant) and then said "oh, nevermind" and went back to the stage to deliver one of the single most boring debate performances I've ever witnessed all while completely selling out the country on this bogus trumped up "bailout" fiasco...... This game is over folks. I've never seen a candidate so thoroughly and intentionally destroy what had been a very real chance at winning.
This is just sad to watch and no matter how well she performs tomorrow night, Sarah Palin can not win this for the man. Winning is something McCain needs to decide he wants first. Should he decide to win this thing, there might still be a chance, but this ball is now in his court and Johnny is double dribbling left and right.
I did read it, which is why I said amen :)
If they had, our uber intellects like Old Sarge and others wouldn't be referring to this post as a vanity. (And with the 6,487 vanities this past week, including a couple from me, there's really no excuse not to know what one is.)
Thailand???
You are the man! Great post and one worthy of a vanity! You have the Seal of Approval with this one!
