Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and his top aides took credit for building a winning bailout coalition
They are not NET debt, because they are buying assets, at fair value. The prices are above market rates, because the securities are in bidless free-fall, but not above fair value rates. We are in the early stages of a total washout in the housing market. Enjoy the ride and rest in the comfort of knowing the part you played in its continuation.
Truth is our trump card. If we find a way around — or through — BO’s conspiracy against free speech, we’ll knock his block off. If we fail, all the fancy footwork in the world won’t save McCain.
Had the bill passed the markets would have stabilized, and we could have fought the election on national security grounds, not on “whose going to protect the poor” grounds, which is not our best turf.
Look at the polls as the economic news has come to dominate in the past two weeks. Can you not recognize that a sense of economic crisis is not in the GOP’s interest?
What I love about FR is the creative thought expressed by the folks who post here.
Some or much of what you all are positing may be true. However, it is always a good idea to follow the money when trying to sort out what happens in Washington or business.
IMO, the dems had two objectives for the so-called bail out. First, they wanted to use it as an opportunity to undermine the capitalist system. Second, they desperately want it to sheild themselves and their cronies in the lending and financial industries from retribution for their criminal and malfeasance behavior.
I think Pelosi and crowd were in a frenzy to cram this bill down our throats quickly before people got onto the game. But, the idiot screwed the pooch when she called pubbies—including the ones who were committed to vote for the bill—johnnie come latelies and unpatriotic. Pelosi’s combination of dumbness and nastiness did her and her bill in.
There is nothing in that bill that punishes the people who created this brave new world. Oh, yea, Bawny Fwanks, was gonna hold hearings sometime to figure out what went wrong. That’s odd, how can we be having a bail out bill if we don’t know what went wrong?
That aside, with dem bail out bill and an Obama presidency, the so-called “investigation” would drag on and on until no one was interested anymore. Upshot: The perpetrators would, in effect, be awarded get out of jail free cards.
This bill was NEVER going to pass Pelosi had this set up for McCain and he didnt even know it. She was hoping to get more pubbies in the yea column the have her lowlifes switch to a NO. His statements may have lost him the election.
Amen my FRiend.
He took credit for getting the bill to the point of achieving a bipartisan agreement -- removing ACORN, etc.
Everyone thought that it was going to pass otherwise it should not have been put to a vote.
Nancy, Harry and the others now have to decide if they will play all in and pass it strictly on a democratic basis by putting all the bad stuff back in.
The other option is for them to try to get more Republican votes which would mean a much better bill which, once again, McCain can claim credit for.
The way I see it, the decision is up to the dems...do they cave and let McCain and the House Republicans set the tone for the next deal or do they commit suicide and reach their hands deeper into our pockets.
You’re right, they tell the American people that if this or that isn’t done within this time frame then the sky will fall. Panic is their strategy, they don’t want us to take the time to read the fine print, almost like used car salesmen.
Same thing they tried with the amnesty bill. It just had to be done right now.
Lets run it through fast, and behind the backs of the citizens. Once it passes. Too late. Ha ha!
They disgust me.
As Harry Truman said; "Drive it like you own it."
Look, I’m with you on wanting Wall Street to suffer. I think that bonuses of management of the dead firms should be recouped by the bailers as fraudulent conveyance. But that doesn’t mean that what is happening is not real. It is real, and significant, and will be lasting if it overshoots to the downside.
“This bill was NEVER going to pass Pelosi had this set up for McCain and he didn’t even know it. She was hoping to get more pubbies in the yea column the have her lowlifes switch to a NO.”
This is exactly what is wrong with Washington, there are too many dirty politics. It’s the height of immorality and corruption. Palin started to verbalize this during the convention. Too bad, I wish that there was a way to bring this idea forward more. It’s the reason why Palin was so popular, she verbalized very well the problem with corruption in Washington. Somehow, someone needs to make a case for this. If the bill was right or wrong, that is besides the point right now. To me, the issue is the dirtiness of it all.
Pelosi wanted the GOP to pass this horror itself, surrendering to her socialism. Then she screamed: “aha, you’re ‘hos’ too” on the congress floor.
Sick psychology and politics at work. Meanwhile McCain and Bush are taking it all like champs.
“Given the fact that the legislation was in fact a negotiated, bipartisan compromise, the first duty of the majority party is to line up its members to support the majority’s bill. But evidence is growing that the Democrats did no such thing.”
Thank you for the link. I have no idea what is going on inside Washington, I don’t pay that close of attention. But even without the “evidence” it is pretty clear to rational people that this is what has happened. Just based on common sense. It was so shocking what Nancy said, that it made her seem stupid, because it obviously caused the Bill to be defeated.. But I realized no one that stupid could get so much power. These people are not stupid, just evil. The defeat was meant to humilate not only President Bush but to also cause damage to McCain
Evil sums up Obama and Peliso.
That’s another point I was going to make, just like Pelosi tries to hide her evil with her “stupid, harmless, female act” Obama tries to hide his evil with his “I’m a smooth talker, I’m harmless, I can see all sides of the issue.” That is why Obama is so difficult to deal with. Because he isn’t who he claims to be, anymore then Pelosi is who she claims to be. That’s why I say the woman went to charm school. It is all very deliberate. But boy, does it help them both to pull one over on people who don’t look very far. I feel so mean whenever I try to explain to people why Obama is dangerous. Because it almost sounds like I am making it up. But it’s true.
The market has already made up a third of yesterday’s losses. Some smart people are already $500 billion richer (assuming that $1.4 trillion was “lost” yesterday).
