Welcome to the Canteen, WWTraveler....thanks for adding to Whitey Mack’s information.
God bless Tommy, indeed. He is one of the few true submariner troubadours. It's important to know a few things about Tommy: a) he was what we boat sailors called a 'spook' or 'rider', i.e., he wasn't part of ship's company; b) he's one of the few spooks to actually complete submarine qualification and earn the coveted silver dolphins badge; c) I'm pretty sure he earned those dolphins aboard Whitey Mack's Lapon.
Those songs are from the heart because Tommy Cox LIVED the events he sings of. I'm proud to have a signed CD of his, because he rode one of MY boats too.
I was also a rider. Tommy is a hero to me
Which boat?
637 class here.
