GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colorado Senate Democrats on Friday tried passing a bill that included language that would continue to prohibit the Bureau of Land Management from issuing final oil shale regulations.
But that effort failed when the financial stimulus package, which would have contained the oil shale ban, stalled in the Senate on a 52-to-42 vote.
The vote comes as the clock ticks closer to the expiration of the oil shale ban often called the oil shale moratorium. It is slated to expire at midnight Monday.
U.S. Ken Salazar, D-Colo., has been a vocal supporter of the ban and included it in a spending bill that passed Congress late last year. He, along with Rep. Mark Udall, D-Eldorado Springs, and Rep. John Salazar, D-Manassa, have all said they will fight to restore an orderly process for oil shale development when Congress reconvenes in January.

They did the same thing with the steel people...My uncle was buying steel from overseas ....30 years ago.
I hope Gore loses his pants.
“I hope Gore loses his pants.
Not an image I want in my head.
Not everything is a conspiracy. In fact, almost nothing is a conspiracy. The Democrats are cutting their losses in the expectation of making huges gains in a matter of weeks. But I’m glad this failed. Republicans will probably have to make a stand for this early next year, however. It will be one of the things that gets them back on track after the November disaster.
I work as a mate on a drill ship in the Gulf. They are planning on renewing all the bans and nationalizing oil companies if Obammy gets in. Our company is only accepting overseas bids once we finish our current charters.
You confirm my conclusion about the drilling debate. The lifting of the moratorium is a tactical victory but strategic loss. The rats have no intention of lifting the ban in any meaningful way. Even if McCain wins (which I doubt), the rats will renew the ban. This time, they will make the ban permanent, not subject to yearly renewal. The Colorado rats are especially oderous in this debate. Colorado has a huge shale potential but the Colorado rats are preventing development.
Right. There are only 51 rigs working the Gulf that is 100% of them. A lot are going to Brazil when current charters are finished. I might have to move to Brazil next year. If Obammy gets in they will socialize and no one will want to go under the nationalization plan. I am getting a sailboat. We mariners already had to get the new id card with a chip they keep talking about. It is like a driver license with a computer chip under a gold seal with a “WORLD” image on it. Called a TWIC. Tranportation workers Identity card. After april you will have to have it to get in the ports. they are building guard gates like on military bases.
