An unconfirmed report just came in from AD reader Kubrickguy. Newman was battling cancer but must have lost the fight. Long live Paul Newman.
********ADMIN NOTE
Confirmed on Fox News.
A long life, well lived. He seemed to roll with every punch thrown at him. To me he was a genuine American treasure. May his family be comforted.
“I have steak at home, why go out for hamburger?” Newman told Playboy magazine when asked if he was tempted to stray.
RIP
Whenever a hollywood celebrity dies I always try to say a prayer for them because most of them are so liberal, especially with abortion.
RIP and prayers out to his family and friends. Cancer is a terrible terrible disease.
Looks like a slapshot tribute night...
RIP Blue Eyes.....
Paul Newman’s death now confirmed on FOX and CNN. :*(
9:45 am CST
Extremely sad day.
A great actor, racer, and man. I had the pleasure of meeting him at Road Atlanta, and if one did not know him from the movies you would have never known he wasn’t just another grease-monkey.
MY condolences to his family.
RIP PAUL!
One of the last “actors” in hollywood (the rest have no clue), RIP Mr. Newman, RIP.
He may have been a Liberal, but his food company pointed the way for those who really want to see how a celebrity should raise money for social causes.
USA Today has a real nice tribute on him with some great quotes and photos.
How sad to hear. What a good man he was. He did so much for children with disabilities with his charity work. He has a camp in the area where I live called the Painted Turtle. He had such a heart for children. What a beautiful soul he was.
Yep, he was a lib. But, dear God, at least he had a ton of talent and class, unlike most of today’s “stars”.
I was 11-years old when my parents took me along to the movie theater in Ocean City, Md., to see The Hustler. It was probably the first “grown-up” movie I ever saw and I never saw a better one. From that day forward, I wanted to BE Fast Eddie Felsen.
He was one of the good ones. A great actor but an even better man. He will be missed. We need more like him. Even if he was a lib :)
“Newman was a dyed-in-the-wool left wing liberal, but at this time, all prayers and thoughts go out to his family. He was (easily) one of the greatest actors ever and will be missed. My personal favorite movie of his was The Sting. He will be missed (if this unconfirmed report is true).
He was an old school liberal though. He didn’t hate his country or anything like that. He just had another philosophy than we did and did a great job helping other people. I’m fine with people like that. Its the self before country, whining, preening types I can’t stand.
Completely unfamiliar with his acting, I've been a fan of Newman's Own brand foods for several years. Picked up a new bottle of dressing only yesterday.
Paul Newman made a few great movies and gave some fine performances -— Somebody Up There Likes Me, Hud, Cool Hand Luke and The Sting among his best. He also made MANY stinkers and was vastly overrated as an actor. A hardcore liberal his whole life and loved by Hollywood.
RIP Paul Newman.
It’s interesting how so many think of Cool Hand Luke when they think of Paul Newman. It’s certainly one of my favorite movies, and I guess it must be Newman’s most popular.
Those boneheads at AP had him at 93 and 83 in the same story.
Godspeed, Mr. Newman.
