In recent memory, every presidential debate eventually distills down into a few catchphrases. Al Gore became known for his sighs and love of lockboxes. John Kerry actually served in Vietnam. Dan Quayle was no Jack Kennedy.
Barack Obama has a bracelet, too.
That inartful comeback will likely filter out through the political ether in the days ahead. What might not filter through our partisan press is that shortly after pointing out that, like John McCain, Obama sports a bracelet given to him by a military family, the Democratic candidate had to stop and look at it to find out the name of the soldier he's honoring.
That soldier is Ryan David Jopek. Barack Obama doesn't appear to have known that fact.
Here's his complete line:
"Jim, let me just make a point. I've got a bracelet too. From, Sergeant, uh, uh, from the mother of, uh, Sergeant, Ryan David Jopek."
Had a Republican, say Sarah Palin, made this gaffe, who wants to bet that we wouldn't hear this clip repeated endlessly during the post-debate spin shows and in the days ahead? How much would the sincerity of our hypothetical Republican politician be called into question.
I didn't hear it discussed once in the post-debate coverage. Did you?
Sidenote: Michelle Malkin reminds us that this incident is remarkably reminiscent of the now-famous incident of George H. W. Bush looking at his watch during the 1992 presidential debates.

I just got the same, however on another video (the Burning Down the House Video) the producer of it said in the comments today that the “viewed” numbers are updated every few hours? I’ve never heard that before, but it would make sense as to why we don’t see the count rise immediately...

The truth may sound harsh, but if it’s the truth there is not much you can do about it is there? And, you are right — they may use terms like “Collectivist” (Obama) or “Communitarian” (Hillary) or their favorite “Socialist”, but it all comes down to the same thing... Communism. So, don’t ever feel bad for speaking the truth! :)
I caught a kid at a sandwich shop in town a few months ago reading a book by Mao. It was sitting on the counter next to the register. As he was taking our order and ringing it up he noticed I was looking at it. He quickly took the book and slid it behind the partition out of sight.
After our food was in our hands (not prepared by him...), I spoke VERY LOUDLY as we left (everyone in the restaurant heard me as it was small, and it was lunchtime so it was packed, and everyone got quiet when I started speaking - I pretended not to notice how loud I was... LOL).
I don’t remember my exact words but something along the lines of not understanding why any young person would want to read a book written by a person who slaughtered so many innocent people, and believes in guerilla warfare that leads to a communist state. I added that people are free to read what they want but that I certainly hoped the “young man at the counter” was NOT a fan of the murderous dictator Mao.
Now, hopefully this young man was reading the book in order to “know the enemy”. HOWEVER, seeing how he reacted when he noticed me looking at the book cover I highly doubt that was the case. I didn’t bother to look back as I left the restaurant after my little “outburst”.
It’s truly frightening how many young people in this nation are brainwashed into believing things like Che was a Hero, and Mao was good, that Chavez is WONDERFUL, along with Stalin (who is enjoying a resurgence of popularity in the Neo-Soviet Union right now).
Anyway, the band was pretty far up his arm. The last pic you posted clearly shows him without the band that he claims to wear every day.
I plan on bringing in my copy of the Black Book of Communism for Mr. Mao. It's a HUGE hardcover book detailing the crimes of communism.
We were at an outdoor book fair a few weeks ago that had a pretty strong Leftist/hippie element. One booth, in particular, was completely over the top. It was basically the communist/anarchist/revolutionary booth. They had a copy of their tabloid prominently displayed up front, which featured a picture of Mao.
I happened to be standing next to a conservative-looking guy in a Polo shirt, so I got his attention, pointed, and said loudly in a flat, non-singing tone, “If you go carrying pictures of Chairman Mao, you ain’t going to make it with anyone anyhow.” < /Beatles>
He raised an eyebrow and chuckled. I know the guys running the booth heard me, but they didn’t respond. Unfortunately, I got called by the wife to look at some stuff in another booth, and then we needed to leave. I was really getting warmed up to verbally tear in to those twerps.
Yep. What obama was basically saying was “So what, everyone’s got a bracelet.” His intent was to cheapen the value of McCain’s bracelet, make it look like a commodity, just another piece of jewelry. The contrast with McCain, who is humbly honored to wear the name of that fallen soldier, was stunning.

I wish I would’ve thought of that myself. Due to the age group in the restaurant I KNOW it would’ve resulted in more than a few chuckles. (I’m wondering if those manning the booth even knew what you were talking about! Probably not...) I’ll have to keep in mind if the opportunity ever presents itself again! I don’t know if I could say it without singing it though... That might be funny too... Just break into singing the whole song right to them! LOL

It’s so ironic isn’t it? My eldest daughter (Izzy_Box), likes to mention whenever we see Che! shirts that the guy is probably rolling in his grave every time someone buys his likeness on his shirt due to his extreme hate of capitalism! LOL
That sounds like a pretty cool book you’ve got too. I’ll have to look around for it. I’ll bet it comes in wonderfully handy when engaging in a “debate” with these people. :)
