U.S. Democratic Party moderates are warning that presidential nominee Barack Obama needs to gain more support from white voters to win in November.
A draft report from the Democratic Leadership Council, leaked to the Washington Web site Politico Wednesday, contends that while Obama, a freshman U.S. senator from Illinois, will likely increase turnout from blacks, self-described liberals and young voters, it may not be enough to offset weaknesses among middle-class white voters, particularly men.
Those votes will be necessary for Obama to defeat Republican opponent Sen. John McCain of Arizona, the study says. It contends that Obama hasn't done enough to change the Democratic Party's historic weakness in that group, and that past election results suggest seeking to balance out the situation by recruiting new voters won't be sufficient.
"There has been so much emphasis on new entrants in the electorate, and this report is historic and not predictive, but history tells us it would be an unusual circumstance if we witnessed a massive shift in the electorate," Politico quoted the DLC analysis as saying.
It defined these white voters as typically between 30 and 59 years old and living in a suburb or the rural South or Midwest.
Same with the Fox poll.

The dirty secret is that Democrats have been awful at attracting men for a long time. They never cared about it as they concentrated on attracting the more numerous women.
I fear that there are literally hundreds of thousands of first-time youth voters out there who are excited enough about Obama to actually get out of bed and go to the polls. This has never happened before with this age group but you never know if the Millennials will be the ones to break the mold. Then again, there are many whites, particularly elderly women, who will not vote for a black man, no matter what. They, too, will make the effort to get out of bed to vote.
Increasing the amount of blacks that vote for a Dem cannot be too much because they already get 90 - 95% of the vote. Are they trying for 100%?
Why? Didn't ABC or someone say he is up about 10 points? Sounds to me as though he will henceforth be known as Landslide Barrack.

Why should white people support a guy who seemingly hates Jews and white when he isn't trying to get elected? Just saying!

Seriously, ballot stuffing and false registrations in this coming election will make the massive clinton cheating in 1996 look like nothing.
One of Bush’s real weaknesses has been his failure to press this issue while he was in power. Now it’s too late. We don’t even have a quorum at the FEC, and the FBI is still controlled by the Democrats.

The silly FOX/Dynamic pollsters had Kerry winning by 5 to 6% in their last poll before election day in 2004.

White Americans, this election might be the last time you will get to vote as a MAJORITY!!
Look how different minority groups are voting and for what reasons below (my observations). My suggestion as a minority citizen in this great country, vote your color for your own survival.
Obama is doing fairly well with different ethnic groups. His African American heritage is a great pride for African Americans with 95 percent supporting him in the democratic primaries. For the same reason, Africans from all over the world would like to see Obama win the United States presidency. Native Americans share with African Americans the history of slavery and mistreatments of the past and feel perhaps that electing Obama offers them the healing they desire. Latinos and people with Hispanic background feel that Obama will give a very favorable hearing on illegal immigration and an acceptance of the Spanish language as part of the daily American life and are leaning toward him with their votes. The Muslim minority feels the closeness for Obama due to ancestry on his father’s side.
Recent polling data indicates that Asian minority groups also support Obama’s presidency in significant numbers mainly because he is a minority.
They used the “w” word. Isn’t that racist?

Union bosses are crying that the rank and file are giving them and Obama the middle finger.
And he can't get Whitey to give him the time of day.

The only relevant poll (if one even exists) would be a state poll from “swing states.”

That’s right, and if I recall that poll showed Obama up 4 points among men.
So, nothing to worry about for Obama.
