Gun sales are going boom around the country as gun owners and gun advocates brace for a potential Democrat in the White House for the first time in almost 10 years.

Democrats, meanwhile, say there's no reason to worry that presidential hopeful Barack Obama would attempt to curtail access to most guns, though that hasn't stopped the buying spree.

The Judge is a poor replacement for a shotgun or a 45 Colt. It doesn’t do either job very well.

Been thinking about buying my first firearm myself. Live in Chicago’s western suburbs, and the South Side is going to be a burning disaster area if Obama loses. I’m worried it might spill over into the suburbs.

What do you all recommend?

12 Gauge Riot gun for you.

Well, there are a lot of opinions on this.
1. Automatics Pistols offer a lot of ammo, plus you can get shots off quickly. But the downside is that for a first time user, they can be tricky.Plus any caliber that has stopping power can be hard to master{ If you buy a Auto, stay away from anything under .380}
2. Revolvers offer safety and ease of use. The Calibers are plenty and they are less expensive to buy. The down side is ammo capacity as most offer 5 or six shots. And the best one to conceal are snub nose type that tend to have a nasty recoil.
The best advice one can offer is to find a friend who has pistols and test fire both types and see which one suit your needs.
Those are mine opinions and I am sure there would be plenty others.
Good luck.

You have my condolences.

Honestly I love living here. I live right near Naperville, which is regularly picked as the #1 or #2 place in the country to live. We have zero crime and downtown Naperville is a great place to visit.

I didn’t say “as a replacement”; I said “suggest a decent handgun as well” - as in “in addition to”.
She stated she had trouble working the slide on the .45, so obviously she had experienced some difficulty with it.

If you have something better in mind, then feel free to recommend it to her. Any help is better than none.

Gun sales aren't brisk because of anyone's fear, they're brisk because gun owners know perfectly well that Democrats are liars on the issue.

"Republicans used the same tactic in 1992 when Bill Clinton ran for office," Franklin said. "Barack Obama is not going to take people's gun rights away. That's not his intention."

Bill "I'm going to stretch this as far as I can" Clinton enacted the "assault" weapons ban, as useless and obstructive a piece of legislation as ever marred the issue.

"There's soon going to be a discussion in this country about automatic weapons," Franklin said. "I think people would agree having an AK-47 on the streets is something that needs to be regulated."

Automatic weapons are illegal now unless one is a Class III licensee. Mr. Franklin is deliberatly lying by attempting to claim that full-auto anything are "on the streets."

People are voting with their wallets and it should be clear to the Dems that when it comes to the voting booth this sort of lying, fear-mongering, and attempted manipulation will make them vote with their ballots as well.

You may want to consider a double-action revolver in .38 or .357 Magnum. The Ruger SP and GP series are a good choice. Automatics are fine, but some folks have a hard time working the action (stiff springs).

If you want a long gun for “social” work, get one of those military-style 12 gauge shotguns. You can’t beat them for intimidation factor, and they have the firepower to back up the look.

Get some training, try some different things out, get something you feel comfortable with. Also remember that California has the two week waiting period and draconian restrictions on storage, use, and carrying of firearms, so make sure you know all the legal ins and outs.

Here’s a resource for locating training: http://www.nrahq.org/education/training/find.asp

Restocking tomorrow.

Just checked cheaperthandirt.com and most of the ammo I'm looking for is sold out. Seems a lotta folks have the same idea.

Few things are more unsettling than an Obama Presidency combined with a large Rat congressional majority. ...and both could very well happen.
