LONDON (Reuters) - The U.S. Navy said on Wednesday it appeared pirates had tried to attack one of its big military oil tankers.
A security team aboard the vessel opened fire on two small boats near Somalia after they ignored warnings and pursued the ship, a U.S. Fifth Fleet spokesman said.
"From all appearances it does look like it was a pirate attack and the incident is currently under investigation," he said by telephone from Bahrain.
He said the Military Sealift Command (MSC) oil tanker, the John Lenthall, which usually carries a range of fuels for the U.S. armed forces, was transiting outside Somalia's territorial waters when the incident took place.

Let's see, we're off the coast of Somalia and some small boats are approaching. Why wait? 1 shot across the bow or one on each side and then let them have it.
It’s about time to assemble a Navy Strike Force, and go over to the waters around the Horn of Africa, and clean that cesspool out. This nonsensical toleration of “pirates” has been going on long enough.

The skiffs then retreated and the navy said there were no reports of any casualties.

We have a history of fighting Muslim pirates on that side of the world...
We have SEALs and SF in Djibouti, along with French SF. IMHO, this might have been a deliberate “Q ship” op, using a heavily armed ship that gave an outward appearance of being a merchie.
I’m not saying they sent the ship there for that purpose, but perhaps it was in transit anyway, and some clever frogman thought.....hmmmm....lets hunt over some bait.
Pirate ship? We didn't see any pirate ship. We were just testing our guns.
Laser guided shoulder-fired missiles would be nice. So would a chain-gun, some .50’s, a hidden 3” incher, any mini-gun, etc.
Let them “come a little bit closer” (Jay Black & the Americans) and blow them to hell. No survivors.
Kill them until they are eliminated. Period. End of story. End of pirates.
Time for guts, not warning shots.
