I dont want this fool anywhere near that red button. Or, from my lips to God's ears, anywhere hear a potential global economic meltdown.
Just seeing him in the same room with a proposed $700B bail-out would be a juxtaposition that he could never recover from.

After months and months of trying to get obama to debate, NOW he finds this one debate absolutely critical. The country is heading down a slippery slope and all obama wants to do, is run his mouth about foreign policy?
Go back to Germany and hold another concert obama, that’s all you know about foreign policy anyway.

I hope Im wrong but this will only help the Dems.

None of Obama’s supporters mind’s will be changed. They’ll vote for him no matter what. I think the rest of voters already know the press is unfair and I seriously don’t think they are listening any more to the press. It may serve only to reinforce the minds of Dems, not sway anyone else’s opinion. This is McCain being McCain=country first.

Think of the ads McCain can run when this is over.
Think of how the entire news cycle for the next week will be about McCain's decision.
One of Palin's biggest applause line was when she said that McCain would rather lose an election than see his country lose a war. One week from today, they can repeat that meme. For five more weeks.

I’m sure you are right that some will try. But will they succeed? I don’t think so.
Will it hurt them to even try? YES.
The Rats are on the ropes with this one. I can’t even imagine how they feel at even the slightest prospect that, at this moment in history, with all that is at stake, they might—even a teeny-weenie-little-bit-—have to go out to the microphones and stand behind a gawkly man-child while he hems and haws and can’t even get out proper inside-the-beltway boiler plate phrases.
I think the thought makes them ill. And their egos won’t allow it. And, dare I say, even some Rats will have proper concern for the country and, therefore, won’t want Obambi gaffe-ing this up.

There is one thing obama is going to HAVE to do is FOLLOW McCain back to Washington, he can’t debate a podium.

From the info I have it sounds like Obama is changing nothing: continuing his campaign
and refusing to reschedule the debate. This means that the present crisis apparently does not transcend partisan politics in his mind.
I have faith in the old veteran pilot. I hope his leadership here works - not just politically, but for our economy.

this strikes as a bad strategic move

I’d been suggesting for a while that Obambi debate Palin-—since he seems to think she’s the one he’s running against.
So, yeah, I like it.
That said, I sure want Palin with McCain in Washington every step of the way. I posted my reasoning upthread.

That's correct, but what does it have to do with McCain? they paid McCain $22,000--and he pushed a bill to reform Fannie and Freddie and expose their fraud. They paid Obama $126,400--and he and Dodd killed McCain's reform bill! So if they paid Rick Davis $250,000-$500,000 they didn't get their money's worth. The point is that there is a vast difference between what the campaign said (that Davis has had no business with Freddie Mac in that past several years) and the truth (that Davis or his company was getting from between $15,000-$30,000 dollars a month from Freddie Mac for years - until August.Freddie Mac paid McCain aide's firm *pops*
Maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see how it is it helping any that McCain's Campaign Manager is involved in this mess, or that the campaign has had to backpedal on the assertion that he (Davis) hadn't received money in several years.
And who says they didn't get their money's worth? They paid Davis to lobby against oversight and there wasn't any. Sounds like their half-million was well-spent.

Gretawire at Fox news now!
Senator McCain is putting his country first by suspending his campaigning. 90% (753 votes)Senator McCain's statement of suspending his campaign is a political stunt. 10% (85 votes)

McCain should craft and run a single, 1-minute ad to run the rest of the week. The ad should state that he is taking his ads off the air, and profess that this is the time for us to come together as Americans, and not Democrats and Republicans. Then call for my opponent to join him in Washington to do the peoples business. This cannot wait for the next President, but must be solved now so our nation and economy can be put on a solid footing. Great idea....BRAVO!
To: fightinJAG
Perhaps they won’t succeed.
However, given enough time to prepare, I think Obama will again go into his speech mode like when he entered his plywood Temple.
IMO, long winded speeches won’t help him at this point. Anytime Obama is forced to think on his feet, McCain benefits.

He could take the entire 90 minutes for himself. He can open thus: "John McCain apparently didn't think this debate was important enough for him to show up." What happens then in voters' minds (many of whom own stocks and 401ks): The most frightening economic crisis since 1929 was not important enough for Obama to show up to help solve.
The tired old line of "the George Bush economy" will eventually wear thin. At some point, even the below-average intelligence voter will want to look under the hood.
What will they find?

“Body parts” was a little inside, “in country” joke. I just forgot, uh, no one here would get it. ;)
That said, I actually didn’t know the history of that expression. I always appreciate knowing such, so thanks!

Thats why Senators never become president
Well, I can guarantee you one thing: A senator will become president in November.
I find it interesting that so many of the people that lambasted 0bama for possibly not showing up to vote are now ticked that McCain will do his job by representing the folks that put him there in the first place.
Besides, Palin will make sure the campaign continues.
To: Brookhaven
My guess is The McCain/Clinton Banking Reform Act of 2008.
ROFL! That'll shore up the PUMA's for McCain.
At least, until Joe Biden has his brain seizure and Hillary steps in to take his place.
To: Lexinom
If that is so, I think it would be politically disastrous to The One’s campaign. Anytime they are forced to think and react quickly, it goes very, very badly. So I hope and pray you are correct.

I think that there is a strategy involved with stopping the ad’s, Bammie won’t even have the ad’s to respond to.
He can’t debate Mac and he can’t debate his ad’s and he has no choice but to FOLLOW Mac back to Washington.
Win/win for Mac. There are LEADERS and there FOLLOWERS.
