Man! We can’t effing win! Last year the war was going bad and pundits were saying Bush isn’t getting enough credit for the strong economy. Now the war is almost won and here comes the housing and financial meltdown.

Ughhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why couldn’t the housing and financial meltdown happen next year!!

Exactly!

Here’s another irony of Obambi’s position that hasn’t been pointed out yet (to my knowledge):

Obambi recently said that if this economic bailout unfolds the way it looks now, he would have to delay most of the spending he’s promising on the stump now.

IOW, he’s GOT NOTHING.

Since his entire campaign is one big spending promise, and since he himself admits that this economic crisis completely undercuts his argument that he can pay for his spending spree with “budget cuts,” Obambi of all senators should get his butt back to Washington to preserve his position.

Mac should run one ad and one ad only explaining to the public that he has taken down his political ads and in interest of helping to solve the current crisis he is canceling his participation in the first debate. He has asked bama to do so but he refused. Its all about him anyway and Mac has to be shown as effective when it comes to leading on the economy.

The Republicans in the senate WILL rally around McCain. McCain will be seen as one of the two major leaders in getting this thing done.

Do you think the Democrats in the senate will be able to put their egos aside and rally around Obama as the “leader” of the Democrats? No. Too many Dems (including Clinton, Pelosi, Reid, Kennedy, and even Biden) have been there so long they think they should be in charge. They aren’t going to let some Jr. Senator with less than 4 years experience upstage them.

The final bill will come out of the senate and be known as the McCain/_____ (Clinton, Kennedy, etc...) My guess is “The McCain/Clinton Banking Reform Act of 2008”.

Whatever, it will show that Obama doesn’t even lead his own party. McCain will be perceived as the type of person others turn to in a crisis.

Obama will be perceived as the type of person that disappears in a crisis.

To everyone. WHO LOOKS MORE PRESIDENTIAL??????? GAME OVER. I just heard BO on the radio say that if “they need me, they’ll call me.” This stupid quote can now be used in new ads.

Geez, this is stupid. What do ads running have to do with the financial crisis Congress is addressing? I’d think running the ads would HELP the economy.

I am listening to Obama ramble. He cannot answer a question decisively, and rambles on and qualifies every statement.

Obama is unfit to handle a crisis, and is unfit for office.

McCain put money where his mouth is. Onada’s serve. One must be bold to accomplish bold things. I think McCain will end up winning the game with this ploy.

Haven’t even gotten to debate and Onada has been hit with six by six. There is no recovery position for Onada. McCain has effected put himself on offense for the foreseeable future. MSM must be kicking their dogs about now. Can’t wait to see/read/hear the sneering analysis tomorrow. Probably get a good preview from Colmes tonight after President’s econ speech.

Partisan politics is not what the American people want. The Democrats talk a good game of promising to fix the country's problems but McCain just challenged them to act. He said its time to be Americans first, to be patriots, to put the country's good first. It matters more than winning an election.

He means it when he says he is suspending his campaign. That is all.

There is nothing “self-defeating” about this action at all. It may be risky, but apparently McCain has looked in the mirror and said, “This is it. Body parts to the wall.”

Good for him.

ROFL. I thought he was a paid senator from IL. People in IL must be immune to this crisis because they elected the one.

Surely he cannot be so stupid to have made this comment.

“Anyone have any thoughts whether something else could be going on?”

Democrats have been the party of big finance since the 1980’s. There are exceptions, John McCain for one. Remember, he was the sole Republican of the Keating 5.

Yes, McCain will get more earned media (and deservedly so) doing his job than the impact of any campaign ad.

“As I posted upthread, McCain knows he is likely to be President in a few months and he’s not going to let a bunch of yahoos back in Washington take the country down the drain, lay an egg for his administration and set a trap for him to boot, while he’s out on the stump. No way.”

Spot on!

...decisions from McCain have never made sense.

Well, it's gotten him this far.

By all rights, the GOP candidate in this election should be 12-15 points down.

There is still 40 days in the election, and our collective attention span isn't that long anymore.
