JOhn McCains address to the Senate in 2005, when he was trying to get an oversight bill to rein in Fannie and Freddie actually shows you dont have a clue.
How successful was that? Why do you think they can fix something in a few days that they've not been able to fix in the past three years?
If you'd like, we can all live in the past. We can pretend it's 2005 and John McCain is leading us in the fight against companies making idiotic decisions.
The problem is, it's not 2005. It's the end of September in 2008 and it's two days before the biggest debate of McCain's political life.
MHGinTN - what you or I or anybody reading this thread thinks - none of that matters, because at the end of the day, you and I and everybody reading this thread will still vote for McCain, but the people who are undecided, the moderates, the independents, they are going to see Obama up there saying a President should be able to do more than one thing at a time.
They aren't going to see Obama saying "UUUHHHH" and "ERRRR" and "UUUMMM" during a debate.
The undecideds, the moderates, and the independents are going to ask themselves why it looks like McCain pulled a fire alarm to get out of a debate.
It's hard, but you need to step back and look at how this looks to the group of voters who will decide this election, the group of voters who McCain and Obama have been chasing for months now, even before they were the formal candidates.
Stop looking at this through the eyes of a Republican or a Conservative, because if you don't understand how this will play out to that group of people, then you will be in for a shock come this January when Barrack Hussein Obama is sworn in.

I think you’re right. Impulse reaction on this is hugely pro-Obama. Then again, Mccain had to do SOMETHING. This economy news is killing him in the polls.

I agree with you!!! It doesn’t look well at all with Undecides or Independents, especially in light of how the MSM will spin it.

I haven’t had time to go through the whole thread, so this might have been covered already, but wouldn’t it be sweet if last-minute, Gov. Palin stepped to the podium and debated vice Sen. McCain.

The undecideds, the moderates, and the independents are going to ask themselves why it looks like McCain pulled a fire alarm to get out of a debate. That's certainly debatable. McCain is doing the right thing on this. What the voters perceive is TBD.
