McCain Suspends Campaign to Help With Bailout

John McCain announced that he will suspend his presidential campaign on Thursday to return to Washington to help with bailout negotiations. He urged his opponent Barack Obama to do the same.

The Arizona senator also asked the Presidential Debate Commission to postpone Friday’s scheduled debate with Obama so that he can work on the financial crisis bailout plan now on Capitol Hill.

“America this week faces an historic crisis in our financial system. We must pass legislation to address this crisis. If we do not, credit will dry up, with devastating consequences for our economy. People will no longer be able to buy homes and their life savings will be at stake. Businesses will not have enough money to pay their employees. If we do not act, ever corner of our country will be impacted. We cannot allow this to happen,” McCain said.

LOL.. This isn’t some game. Great Depression 2 is around the corner. Roll your eyes with your head in the sand. This is the most serious economic crisis this country has seen for 80 years!

I think this is a very bad idea. McCain seems to be reactionary in a big way. He isn’t showing calm in the face of this crisis. It’s a knee jerk reaction not a good campaign strategy.

The Friday night debate is already postponed anyway according to WSPD-AM Talk Radio in Toledo, OH. I heard this info around 3:15 today but have no link for it. Basically, the idea was to let this news come out AFTER the President gives his remarks this evening. We'll see if they're correct.

0bama’s[aid that he is] going to meet with McCain and Bush on Capitol Hill to hammer out a bill.

This country has come to feel the same when Congress is in session as when the baby gets hold of a hammer.

The same INTRADE who had Romney at 80% the day before the VP announcement?

Puh-leeze, don't make me post the graphic of the FR poll predicting that the GOP would retain both the House and Senate in 2006. Intrade's predictions are about a zillion times more accurate than that of posters at FR.

“McCain will look like the hero who is going to come to the rescue and save our economy.”

To who, members of a conservative forum? Try going outside a little. People are going to scratch their heads and say “McCain can't take a night off LISTENING to arguments on the floor to debate Obama”? Or, “can't take a couple hours off to formulate an argument”?

He is one of 50 Senators. If he was a sitting President it would be different but come on, conference calls happen all the time. People can be at two places at once.

McCain is getting hammered on intrade.

In case you haven't been paying attention, we are about to go under bigtime. I think McCains move, is what a President would do!

I can just see Alan Colmes now, squirming in his chair as he desperately keeps repeating "But Sen. Obama said it first... yes, but Sen. Obama said it first!"

"He isn’t showing calm in the face of this crisis. It’s a knee jerk reaction not a good campaign strategy."

You mean the knee-jerk reaction of getting back to the job you are STILL being paid to do because of our countries current crisis? Since when is getting back to work a knee-jerk reaction?

Here is something to chew on:

The only reason 0bama wanted to issue a statement is the 0bama campaign was afraid that 0bama would end up supporting the bill and McCain opposing it.

No matter what McCain and Palin do they will NEVER have the media on their side. The American people are catching on to the MSM’s game. Like Palin, McCain isn’t trying to seek their good approval.

MSM already calling it a “Hail Mary” and “showboating”. This is going to be a disaster for McCain.
