McCain Suspends Campaign to Help With Bailout

John McCain announced that he will suspend his presidential campaign on Thursday to return to Washington to help with bailout negotiations. He urged his opponent Barack Obama to do the same.

The Arizona senator also asked the Presidential Debate Commission to postpone Friday’s scheduled debate with Obama so that he can work on the financial crisis bailout plan now on Capitol Hill.

“America this week faces an historic crisis in our financial system. We must pass legislation to address this crisis. If we do not, credit will dry up, with devastating consequences for our economy. People will no longer be able to buy homes and their life savings will be at stake. Businesses will not have enough money to pay their employees. If we do not act, ever corner of our country will be impacted. We cannot allow this to happen,” McCain said.

Actually, McCain says he is suspending his campaign, so Palin won’t be on the trail. I think that if she keeps going to rallys and campaigning, this may end up looking like a purely political move.

McCain has some serious balls.

There are 2 ways this can work...

McCain will either hit a homerun or lose the election.

We will likely know the election results before election night. One way or another...

McCain needed a few miracles to win this election. 1 of them was Obama being totally lack luster over the summer. #2 was Sarah Heath Palin. We need one more. We need one more..

My first thought when I saw this a few minutes ago was that the Obamabots in the MSM will portray this as McCain trying to avoid a confrontation with The One...the moonbat blogs are already saying it. I dunno, I can't tell what McCain's strategy is here. It's hard for me to understand why he couldn't do both - go to DC, spend today and tomorrow working on the economy all the while looking and acting presidential, then hop on a plane Friday and spend a few hours debating Obama? Why the need to cancel the debate?

I thought about this too. It's a good move. Number one, if he explains it right it looks like he's more interested in fixing the economic mess than campaigning. Country first and all.

But the way it REALLY is smart is that it puts Obama on the defensive. If Obama doesn't go back to Washington, he looks like a self serving heel. If he challenges McCain on not debating, he looks like he's more interested in getting votes than fixing the country. If he does go back to Washington, it looks like he's copying McCain...the "me too" strategy.

It is simply astounding to me that Carl Cameron (and probably many others) find it 'maverick', 'in your face', and 'remarkable' that a candidate might suspend traveling and hand-grabbing in order to return to Washington and do their damn job! It is no wonder that we are in the shape that we find ourselves.

It’s not desperate. The media has already started rumblings about both Senators not being there to vote. He’s making the first move.

Bush to speak to nation tonight about economy

AP 9/24/08
(exerpt)
WASHINGTON - President Bush will address Americans directly about the financial crisis tonight at 9 p.m. ET, and his spokeswoman said Wednesday the nation risks “calamity” without bold action...

Bush giving a speech is “bold”? Looks like only McCain gets the “bold” part.

How does one prepare for a debate when sitting in Senate hearings?

If McCain hasn't BEEN preparing for the debate for months already, he's already in trouble. An extra day or two of prep ain't gonna help him. On the other had, if McCain continues to work this strategy the way I think he will, which is to show Obama as more interested in campaign promises than actual solutions, it could be a good move...too early to tell, but the Maverick never ceases to amaze.

The real crisis is that Americans keep electing Socialists to Congress. And McCain can help Sarah by staying off the Campaign trail till the election.
