[history]
Well, the good news first. After installing three very sweet machines and new networking equipment, FR is geared up for the onslaught of traffic we anticipate during this election cycle. All that is left is some tuning and bringing online another database server.
The bad news: I goofed horribly this morning and wiped the articles table, a file that stores crucial information for displaying articles.
Fortunately, the data is backed up. I'm working on restoring it, but it may possibly take the rest of the day to bring it back fully.
So don't touch that dial!
UPDATE: Restored a couple million old articles. Still working on the most recent, which need to be restored from incremental backups (very slow!)
TOPICS: Breaking News; Free Republic; News/Current Events
KEYWORDS: faq; fr; freerepublic; malfunction; oops; srsly; whoops

At last, a chance to go play outside. The weather is fantastic.
We know you’ll get it squared away Jim. Thanks

You're FIRED!
"SERIES", For a couple minutes I thought it was something I did to my layout. I just left the Microsoft Website after downloading an XP application.
Not that those two should be related but with Windows one nevr knows :-)

I was beginning to wonder if FR was a target of a DOS attack! I certainly wouldn't put it past some wild-eyed, left-wing goober to do just that!
Good to hear it was just FR undergoing some updating. It WILL need it for this election!

John,
Been there, done that - the all nighter before and the stress of cutover to a new production database. I know EXACTLY what you are going through right now!!!
Relax, take your time, and don’t rush it.

When I brew that stuff for myself, I recirculate the stuff to brew a second time, but thats me for my own personal enjoyment, and it may wreck the coffeepot. If you really wish to do this might I suggest transferring the coffee to a French Press for this process? It would save your coffee maker.

Thanks for all you do John.

John, this brings up what may be an easy question to answer -- this summer I noticed that using the 'In Forum' path, we can only retrieve the first page of our most recent posts.
Presumably we can still retrieve all of our old posts through the 'Ping' path -- I admit I haven't tried that because I prefer to only scan what I've written sans responses, usually in order to slap a Lib upside the head post-haste (pun intended).
Is there a way (short of "are you logged in") to still use the 'In Forum' path to trail backwards through my old posts past the first page of results? If any FReeper can answer, you have my deepest appreciation.

Thanks so much. With the economy, geopolitics and the election, it’s gonna be one busy place on Free Republic.
Your hard work and long hours are much appreciated!!
